This was our second time staying at Paradisus La Esmeralda. Unfortunately this time around again I couldn’t give them 5 stars for the following reasons.

We decided again to upgrade to Family Concierge package since they told us that we would be very satisfied this time around (since the last time we thought it was complete waist of money).
What a waist of money even more so compared to our last time. It’s about $120/day more and all you get are reservations to the restaurants done by your concierge at the times he could find available. I could call and reserve our dinners myself.
This time the pool that used to be heated for family concierge was not heated (although it was warm enough to swim), the restaurant that they used to have which had an amazing lunch options Hydrogrill was replaced by a new restaurant called Olio. The food there was very mediocre including breakfast. Surprisingly the buffet had the best lunch options in our opinion if you don’t mind walking there from the beach or pool area.
The only perks of the Family Concierge building is the snack/espresso bar in the lobby. If you think it’s worth $120 day then go for the upgrade.

By the way all the restaurants that they insist are booked for the day are half empty.

But the worst part for us this time were the towel cards and the beach. First about the towel cards. Who asks for towel cards in 5 star hotel? The pool guy told me he can give me only 1 towel per person?! And I had to return my towel to get my towel card back so I can get a towel the next day. I am sorry but when a hotel charges $600-700 per day for a stay shouldn’t they have enough towels by the pool and the beach area so the guests don’t need to carry towel cards with them all day long? And we have bracelets on so the pool employees can see that we are hotel guests and not visitors. That was a big turn off for us.

As for the beach, like everyone else mentioned it was not swimmable due to the seaweed and murky water. It was just gross. The beach water activities were fun and were included in the hotel price. Although the guys working for Aquasport could have been a bit more friendlier.

The spa is also disappointing. It’s very tiny. The steam room barely worked. There is only one chair and blow dryer for the entire hotel in the spa.

Although the massages by the beach run by a different company are pretty reasonable and good.

Now for the good part, the food in general is good. The restaurants are very nicely decorated. We thought Mole had the best food.

Overall hotel, the rooms and the pools are very clean. The rooms were cleaned very promptly.

The service is very good and basically all the employees are very friendly and nice. We were absolutely not harassed by time share or club Melia people.

The best part we liked about the hotel was their entertainment program. There was always music (really good music) playing by the pool, great night shows daily. We loved the Lion King Musical, the lazer show was great. Overall very happy and full of energy wibe around the hotel. This is one of the hotels that people stay in and hang out all day long. It’s not empty or boring.

The tequila tasting was really fun. Oscar was excellent, we learned a lot from him about tequilas and had a great time tasting them.

We would return if they didn’t have the seaweed issues and the towel cards Also they used to have jumpers in the bigger kids pool before which were gone this time:(

We stayed in the Family Concierge section of the resort and the experience was great. Our butler Alberto was great and all of the staff at Olio restaurant, including Alejandro, Dominga and Demetrio were attentive and extremely friendly. The food and drinks were exceptional for an all-inclusive resort. We definitely recommend the Family Concierge upgrade as all of our reservations were taken care of on arrival. Overall, we had a great trip and would recommend this resort to our friends and family.

Wonderful place to visit. The food was great and Family Concierge was extremely helpful. Cesar and Fernando made our trip even better. If we needed something they were there to help us. The beach could have been better. The seaweed made it impossible to go in the water. Luis made sure we had everything we needed on the beach. Would go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the end of the floor

Nice place, exellent food except for Brazilian steak house, all others were very good. Played tennis every day, shows were average, drinks were top shelf as long as you asked. No beach view from rooms since beach is about 50 yards away from nearest building. Nice plush foliage between resort and beach. Lots of chairs and umbrellas at beach. Very Good service and friendly staff. Nice separation at La Perla if you wanted to get away from children.
