“Perfect holiday great service, food and relaxation!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2012

This is by far my favourite of the Palace resorts. It's 5 star quality, gorgeous white marble, perfect location, near 5th avenue shopping and the ferry for Cozumel. It's the all inclusive that I would ever pay for, and worth every penny! The only negative thing that occurred this year was they downgraded some of their wine selection. They used to offer really great South American wines on the free list, now they have subpar wines on the upgrade list, and they make you pay the taxes from your free points for bad wine. This was a huge disappointed, but apart from making you pay taxes on the things you can use your free $$ points for, well, it becomes more like a "quasi" all inclusive. At any case, I would still return, because there is not other place like it. I was even reluctant to write this review, because I want to keep the place all to myself. LOL

Room Tip: Get a room on the opposite side of the pier for quieter rooms.

Out of all three times we have visited PlayaCar Palace, this was the best! Being members for just under 5 years, this resort is by far our favorite. The service was above and beyond. Fernando (food and beverage manager) was attentive and courteous towards are needs. The hotel managers- Pedro and Rene were extremely conscientious and helpful towards making our extended vacation pleasant. We can't say enough about the staff as each and everyone of them went out of their way to make us happy. Perla and Blanca from the pool were professional and mindul. The "cena with the chef" is a must! This evening was definitely worth it and was nice to see that Palace resorts have established new things to do. The italian restaurant was our favorite place to eat- with it's delicious food and extraordinary staff- Angel and Jehu were fantastic. We really enjoyed out stay here and would highly recommend this resort if you are looking for great service, beautiful beach and great location!

The good: Great location on a lovely beach. You could see across to Cozumel. In one direction you can walk on the beach to Playa Del Carmen and the other, after you go around the pier where the ferry lands towards Playacar. We loved the proximity of walking to 5th ave, the bus station, and to where the collectives are as I don't like the feeling of being stuck at a resort with a taxi being my only option of leaving.

The wait staff was super attentive and friendly both at the beach and at the restaurants. They came around constantly to refill our drinks and ask if we needed anything. The remembered our names and our drinks even though we weren't constantly hanging out at the resort. My husband claims that the initial coffee service is a little slow in the mornings, but I just think that is because he is cranky until he gets his first cup. :)

The so-so: the resort credits. We used them at the spa, for wine upgrades ($65 for a bottle of Woodbridge Chardonnay!), and we went on the Tulum tour which was good but we didn't like the stop at the "Mayan craft store"). It was like spending funny money and the choices weren't that great. I would have preferred to pay less and not have to worry about the credits.

The food was good for the first few days, then it started to look the same. At least there was always the choice of making yourself a yummy salad at lunch or make your own omelet/eggs at breakfast.

Glad there was a gym there. There were only two treadmills and one was out of service the whole time.

The bad: they put us in a room with a king bed although there where three of us. We tried to change it the first night but they said they were 100% full. It was obvious that they weren't. I really had to keep insisting the next day that they move us, and they eventually did, but not without many phone calls saying the room is ready, then it wasn't, they it wouldn't be, then finally the move. After that, I was finally able to relax as we got a great room with a balcony looking over the pool and beach.

This hotel is beautiful and very clean! The only problem we had is that we stayed here during consturction of their new spa which started at 7:30am on a Saturday. We also had two double beds when we reserved a king bed. The next day we moved into a very nice upgraded room. The hotel is right next to the ferry to take to Cozumel and next to all the 5th street restaurants, shops and bars! This hotel had great entertainment each night too! Juanna the waitress was our favorite! Overall, our experience was very pleasant!

Room Tip: Get a 3rd or 4th floor oceanview room - they are amazing!

My wife & I were not originally thinking of going to Mexico at all, but Riviera Maya was the perfect place to spend almost 2 weeks for our honeymoon! The Playacar Palace is a fantastic resort very close to the main shopping district, we liked that because we could walk into town for other shopping, drinks (Senor Frogs!), Cozumel fairy & everything else! Everyone we came into contact with was extremely friendly, helpful, spoke English & could not do enough to make you feel welcome. The food was very good & the staff was terrific! We spent most lunches eating at the pool bar, Gerardo & the staff made our beach/pool afternoons very enjoyable! I would recommend the dinner on the beach, the spa, spending a day in Cozumel & a trip to the Tulum ruins. We had a great time & will be going back again with other friends & family!

Room Tip: I would recommend an ocean view room, there is nothing better than ordering room service & eatin...
