Hotel Maya Turquesa
Ranked #198 of 214 Hotels in Playa del Carmen
Reviewed 10 January 2015

The location was excellent and the wi-fi when it worked had great connectivity. It is within walking distance to the busiest part of Playa del Carmen but the hotel itself was very quiet. The hotel felt safe with one night entrance. Good television and small kitchenette area including stove, microwave and fridge. The problem was that this hotel purported to be a three star hotel. That is an extremely generous assessment. It was a two star at best. Everything was a but.....
The hot water was plentiful but it had all of the pressure of misting rain.
The room was clean but the finishes were not the best.
The wi-fi was great but didn't work all the time.
The hotel workers were mostly helpful but barely spoke any English. (I know it is not fair to penalize for lack of English speakers but they should let you know ahead of time that this would be a problem.)
Parking was free but there were only about five spots reserved for the entire hotel. (Only pay for "deposit" with credit card or I suspect you will never see that deposit again)
Breakfast was free but it only consisted of two pieces of toast, a cup of coffee, a glass of juice and about 10 bite size pieces of cut fruit.
There was a pool but it was outside and acted as a biting insect magnet so you couldn't even eat your "breakfast" in peace.
Great air conditioning in room but the rest of the hotel was outside.
Small hotel so not tagged as cattle but no elevator and no one to help you with luggage.
All in all we were desperate for a place to stay for three people within budget of less than $2500 for six days during New Years. It was not a roach motel but it is definitely not a luxury experience. The pictures are accurate but don't show how small everything is and don't show how downscale the hotel feels. The junior suite was less than 400sq ft and there are no windows. Just a balcony door that looked on to the tiny courtyard. Clean sheets with miscellaneous stains, no face towels, and weird stains in corners of shower. If I had never stayed at a decent hotel before I probably would think this hotel was actually okay.

Room Tip: There is no elevator. The junior suite had three beds in an efficiency setting of less than 400 sq f...

Good wi-fi and really kind staff. We were put into a horrible room on the first night. The receptionist was very concerned and moved my family into a nicer suite with a kitchenette. The beds were really comfortable. A few little touches would make this hotel even better - a bath mat would be good and some plug sockets didn't work. The kitchenette could benefit from practical things like coffee cups and teaspoons. Nice hotel for the price and close to the heart of Playa without being too noisy.

An average budget hotel for the price, the room I had was spacious with a large bathroom and small kitchen area. The pool area is small but nice. However the room had a slight smell of damp and the linen had a few stains on it, which isnt a great look even if it has been washed. Despite this I did have a fantastic nights sleep in the enormous bed.

I stayed there for a few days, i was happy with the wifi, room was very nice, pool was clean, terrace had a good view over the city and see.

I felt safe, key door was working all the time, if i had something to "complaine" the friendly stuff help me to find a solution.

I was staying also in other hotels in Playa and in Mexico, where i had to pay the same amount as here, and there the stuff was only busy with their Smart Phones...

I can highly recommend this Hotel.

My advice would be to see the room you are renting there are some better than others. My family came without reservations and we rented three different rooms. They were thoughtful enough to let us know when the family sweet was available so we could reserve it. The receptionist speaks very good English and is very helpful and the pool is just the right size. I will be coming back to this hotel many hotels here have outdated TVs and hotel bedding, here they have nice comforters and flat screens. The air condition is super cold too.
