We went to Xcaret on the recommendation of friends who had been before. We do not usually go to theme parks but trust our friends. At the end of the day we felt it was worth the money.
Before you go here are a few tips from our visit.
If you know what day you would like to go book ahead on line. You can save a little money. Depending how much time you want to spend in the water you could consider going later in the day. We arrived after midday. There was no line to get in. We did not pay for a buffet. There are a couple of restaurants where you can have a la carte. We ate good and ample fajitas for around $200 (pesos)
We had plenty of time to see the exhibits we wanted to. We did not however swim in the ocean etc. The underground river was not crowded. We spoke with a family who went on the river in the morning and they had a very different experience with large crowds. The system for giving up your belongings and collecting them at the end of the river worked very well There are showers and changing rooms available. It is important to realize you will be swimming for about 40 minutes. With small children they will have to hold on to you unless they are on a swim team. You have a life jacket but the river flows very slowly so it does not carry you along.
The aviary and butterfly exhibit are very good. Creative architecture allows you to see birds from many different levels.
Show is spectacular wonderful dancers, beautiful costumes, accomplished live bands. I read that they have 300 performers. It lasts from 7-9pm with one short interval. For best seats get there an hour ahead. The stadium seats 8,000 so you can be a long way from the stage if you are at the top of the bleachers. They have a live music performance before the main show so the time goes quickly. If you go with friends it is easy to keep seats. They have “Mayan warriors” lining the route into the stadium later on. If you go in earlier you may miss them but you will see them on stage. Best seats are along the sides in the middle not at the ends. Choose about 10 rows up minimum for best view.
Overall a great day out with something for everybody from young to old.
