A friend and I recently spent a few days in Playa del Carmen at the Hotel Casa Ticul. We found it through TripAdvisor. The reviews were accurate. All the staff is friendly and knowledgable. The rooms are sufficient in size and cleaned well daily. The breakfast is amazing! Each day there is bread (with toasters) and a selection of jams and peanut butter, a selection of fruits, juices, and the ladies make a different egg dish each morning. Each morning we were greeted with a smile and the egg dish was explained to us, then prepared fresh and brought to our table. It's not a big, farmhand breakfast, but who needs that anyway. It is just right. The location, too, is good. It is on Quinta Avenida, but toward one end so you aren't in the hustle and bustle. Nice and quiet and good sleeping. The only problem we had is they wanted me to pay cash on checkout, but no one had told me ahead of time (that I remembered) so I didn't have the cash. Keep this in mind.

Room Tip: I read the reviews warning about the first floor rooms, but I had zero problem with noise and light...

I was traveling around Mexico with a friend in February, and stopped at Casa Ticul for a few days. The location is great, a close walk to the beach and close to some cute restaurants and bars. The room was bright, clean and comfortable, and the staff friendly. Great value for money, totally recommend this hotel.

One advantage of our location is that our guests can walk to the beach clubs that we offer or restaurant they choose to eat

Thanks for the nice comments, we are happy to hear that we were a good memory in your tour around Mexico.

We came to Playa del Carmen primarily to scuba dive, so we weren't looking for a resort hotel. We chose Casa Ticul based on the good reviews on tripadvisor and we weren't disappointed. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The location was very good -- an easy walk to the beach and good restaurants. We did take advantage of the passes to Las Palapas beach club one afternoon. It was very easy. Staying at Casa Ticul seemed like the best of both worlds -- a quiet, more reasonably priced hotel and access to resort beach clubs.

I recently stayed here in Mid-May and the hotel is a perfect place to stay in Playa. The room is nice, not quite a 'nice' as in the photos, but perfect for what we needed, however I found the bed way too soft. Also, the shower is a salt shower which I didn't mind, but it's not to everyones liking. The location as someone else on here put it, is close enough to everything playa has to offer without being smack in the middle of it. The staff really were so helpful and kind. Breakfast was good each morning, however if you came late, some items tended to be gone and not replaced (fruits, juices, certain breads). Overall we had a wonderful stay here, we had bad luck with our weather, but the hotel was great and they give you access to three beaches.

Me and my wife came to this hotel for our honeymoon, and it was a delight. The staff is very hospitable, the location - perfect (close but not too close from the main area and very close to the beach). There are not enough words to describe the quality of the breakfast - each day a different and tasty type of omelet, coupled with exquisite fruits. the room itself is great - has everything you need.

In short - perfect.

I would add that it is good to go there yourself to reserve a room, and that way you can get a much better rate per night.
