My wife and I signed up for Adentures Mexico "Taste of Yucatan" cooking class and it turned out to be so much more than just the cooking. We met Jorge, a young chef, who took us to the local market to shop for ingredients. What an experience! Jorge showed us through the entire market (As the central market in Merida, it is huge.) explaining along the way the various spices and peppers available for purchase. After carefully selecting our ingredients we took a bus to Laura's house north of downtown. Laura learned her cooking skills from her mother and grandmother. They can be proud of her. She showed us how to make a delicious Sopa de Lima con Pollo (lime soup) and chicken in achiote & sour orange juice steamed in banana leaves. Wonderful! Since it was just the four of us, we had an opportunity to visit, ask lots of questions, and really get to know our hosts which made the day and our time together very enjoyable. If you have a half day, this is a great way to experience life and living in Merida.

We took the biking tour in late January with Jennifer as our guide. We met her at the Hotel Caribe at 8am sharp and rode the local bus to Tixkokob, where we visited a local market and collected our bikes and helmets from Lupe. We then set off for the ruins at Ake and the Solis family henequen hacienda, stopping a couple of times en route. It was amazing to watch the crew working with the henequen through all the steps of processing. The ruins at Ake are very interesting and unlike any others we visited. After spending close to two hours at the hacienda and the ruins, we made our way back to Lupe's, where a delicious lunch was waiting for us.

This was one of the most fun tours we have ever experienced. It's a good way to get out into the country side, meet some real people, and experience the local culture. And Jennifer is a wonderful guide, very professional, accomodating, and pleasant. When one person in our group could not complete the ride, Jennifer graciously arranged for alternate transportation to and from the main sites.

I highly recommend this bike tour - you won't be disappointed!

My wife and I were seeking to learn more about local Mexican cuisine, and the Taste of Yucatan workshop was right on target. Luis guided us through the market, explaining key ingredients, answering questions, and allowing plenty of time for observation and photography. He was extremely patient, never hurrying and always stopping to answer any queries we had (and we had lots!)
We then proceeded to Luis and Laura's home with our acquired ingredients and prepared a delicious feast together. The atmosphere was very informal. Beyond the culinary aspect, this was a great opportunity to see Merida through the eyes of a local, for which we are very grateful. An enjoyable day and also very good value.

This was, quite possibly, the best experience we had while in Merida, Mexico - certainly the most unique, and so much fun! Luis met us at our hotel first thing in the morning, took us shopping in the huge city markets for the very freshest foods, then we accompanied him to his own home where he and his wife showed us how to make their special Yacatecan dishes from scratch. After getting to roll up our sleeves and really help to make all the food, we enjoyed a wonderful casual luncheon with them, devouring the most excellent dishes we had helped to prepare, before being returned to the door of our hotel. I t was a truly wonderful day!

We took the biking tour with Luis and really enjoyed the day. It was just myself and my friend on the tour and we really valued the one on one attention. After being on many large tours in Mexico City and Playa Del Carmen it was really nice to enjoy what Merida had to offer in a more low key environment. Luis was very professional and also very knowledgeable. He knew a lot about the local area and always stopped to tell us some extra interesting information. He listed to our requests and always made us feel comfortable and safe. This really made for a great tour. I loved the extra touch where we were made lunch in a local hacienda by a local resident. It was authentic and a great insight into another way of life. Thank you Luis for a memorable experience.
