The location of this hotel is perfect. It is so close to locate restaurants, where you get local cuisine and cheap prices. The hotel is a little dated and the bed was hard and the pillows were lumpy. However, the rooms were clean, the staff were brilliant, and the facilities were nice. We had a nice time here and would recommend to others.

This hotel has a lot going for it: a great location, friendly, helpful staff, a lovely courtyard, a pleasant little pool area, great food at the adjacent Bistrola 57 restaurant and a shop filled with pretty things. The room decoration was not particularly to my taste and very dated (a vase with potpourri, and a wicker toilet-paper holder gathering dust and germs!), but the room was clean and a decent size and the shower had good pressure.
The negative: the beds and pillows were absolutely horribly lumpy and uncomfortable, so much so that I went out and bought a travel pillow, which helped somewhat; also the a/c was never cool enough and we were far too hot for our entire 3 night stay. There are loads of new hotels in Merida and the Casa del Balam needs some energetic micro-management and some investment if it’s going to compete.

A deliteful boutique hotel in the older part of Merida. The rooms were large with very nice but old style furniture. We had two queen beds that were comfortable. The bathroom was quite old and dated but functional. The building elevator was old, small and slow but again functional. Everything about the hotel was clean and appeared to be well maintained. Breakfast was included, limited but very nice. The small bar was well stocked and decently priced. We did not have lunch or dinner in the small restaurant.

This hotel is beautiful and its colonial flare definitely adds to the antique decor of the downtown buildings, parks, museums and restaurants, all within walking distance. The beds are quite comfy. There is a faint sewer smell in the bathrooms and you can only control fan speed of the AC units. The temperatures seem to be preset. The staff is outstanding , very professional, uniformed, very knowledgeable and always welcoming and willing to assist with any questions. Great hotel right in the midst of all the downtown hustle and bustle .
