“Viva Villa Rolandi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2012

Let’s bring out every superlative to describe this hotel: excellent, marvelous, sensational, wonderful rapturous. We enjoyed an uber relaxing holiday at Villa Rolandi The experience began prior to check-in when we were picked up at the airport and brought directly to the hotel’s yacht which brought us directly to the hotel. Everything was ideal. Villa Rolandi is in excellent condition, the setting is beautiful, the service was first-rate and first-class, the food was varied and delicious. Every request was accommodated immediately and the chef was willing to even make things for us that were not on the menu. We can’t wait to return.

This beautiful hotel is highly ranked on my favorite places of the world. My husband and I go here regularly, we both love it. The rooms are spacious, the bedding exquisite, the views spectacular, and the bathrooms unbeatable, with double showers and a turkish steambath! then the amazing staff, excellent food, the infinity pool overlooking the private beach and the ocean, the cascade on the beach, the room service, well you get the picture; it´s luxury paradise and my absolute favorite hotel in the world. We did our honeymoon here, and we go back as much as we can. Thanks Villa Rolandi and staff, for these incredible moments...

My girlfriend chose Villa Rolandi based on its size, 35 rooms, and a special price being offered. Its website and other descriptions hardly do it justice. It is a beautiful place, inside and out and the attention paid to the small details is evidence of a well managed facility. The staff, front desk, spa, food service, etc. are all well trained, well spoken, (all service personnel speak English) and all are seemlingly very eager to please. The front desk is responsive to requests and full of excellent suggestions. Room service was unusually quick and well done. While tips are appreciated, there's no hint of expectation or requirement. At the pool or beach, service is easy to get and graciously executed whether you're in a position to tip or not.

The Full Breakfast, offered each morning in your room or in the restaurant, was better than expected. Lots of selections including excellent fruit, eggs, breads, juices, and great coffee (if you use cream, ask for "crema". Otherwise its milk which is ok but the "crema" is a real treat.) I especially liked the Eggs Benedict but the Omelette was also excellent. The fruit plate is enough for two with mango, papaya, watermelon, cantaloupe, and pineapple. Room service is also pretty good with substutions and there are other items available for an additional charge.

The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and well maintained. The grass is cut by hand with clippers so there are no power mowers to disturb the ambience. Beautiful plants and blooming flowers are everywhere. The pool area is generally quiet with more than enough very comfortable chaise lounges. There is also an adjacent heated salt water therepy pool, somewhat like a huge "jacuzzi" which was very relaxing. The beach is small but never seemed crowded with lots of spots, shade and sun, palm trees, umbrellas and a very calm water experience only a few feet away. There was no blaring music or intrusion of any kind on the peace and serenity.

Our Jr Suite on the second floor featured a King bed, a wonderful verandah, ceiling fan, plenty of closet and drawer space and a verahdah with a spectacular view of the sea and the mainland, a few miles away. Blackout curtains along with a sheer curtain cover the entire glass wall out to the verandah. The shower is oversized and features six showerheads, steam, along with a very odd window looking into the bedroom. It is possible to stand on the far side of the bed and look right into the shower and toilet area...creepy, inexplicable but it really wasn't a problem. There is a seperate vanity area, sink and such for washing hands, brushing teeth, and so on. The steam feature in the shower is a nice touch and works well. We used it a couple of times. All things considered, the room is well appointed and well laid out. Each room has a "dumb waiter" feature; a passageway from the outside into the room which can be used (but isn't) for the presentation of room service. It must have seemed like a good idea at the time however, as said, it really isn't used and room service is presented in the traditional manner, i.e. open the door and the waiter brings in the order. As mentioned earlier, room service is quick, generally 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the order.

One of the special amenities offered is "Dinner on the Beach". It was priced at $80 USD and worth it, in my opinion. The beach set up includes a border dug in the sand and lighted with a luminary effect. There is also special lighting projected into the water and across the sand. The effect is really very festive but not overdone. The service was attentive and the food was top notch..

One interesting anomaly about the elevator which is fast and very modern; our room was number 208 but the button on the elevator to reach it was number one. If you're room is numbered in the 300's, you push 2. Rooms numbered in the 100's don't require the elevator since they're basically on the Lobby floor. That and the window into the bathroom were the only somewhat strange experiences.

Would I stay there again? In a heartbeat. I hated leaving and look forward to going back again maybe in late fall.

We chose to visit Isla Mujeres because we prefer the blue waters of the Caribbean and small town like places. Cozumel has been a favorite of ours but we wanted to try something new on a recommendation from a friend, which brought us to Isla.

We like the freedom of the all inclusive but prefer a more intimate hotel (less than 100 rooms) experience. We booked our trip for 11 nights which included the dinner plan. The Villa Rolandi was truly amazing in every way. We paid the 100 (well worth it!!) to have them pick us up from the airport to be brought to their own Yacht the Cocoon. It was hassle free and a great way to start our vacation off. When we arrived we were greeted by Hector who welcomed us by our names. We were taken to our room that was HUGE and gorgeous! The view is of the water (total privacy) and you can see the lights of the mainland at night. We enjoyed our private hot tub on our patio daily. The marble bathroom was gorgeous and there is tons of closet space and room to move around. The food is top notch. Everything was freshly made to order and truly a five star dining experience. We always had a table next to the water and I think they reserve that for guests staying at the hotel. The service was second to none. We travel quite a bit and we have never had the level of service that we received at Villa Rolandi. Literally within 5 minutes of calling down to the front desk, a knock came to our door to take care of whatever we needed.

We never had a problem finding a lounger on the beach or by the pool even though the hotel was pretty full. They have kayaks that you can take (free of charge) and we had so much fun enjoying the water. We are avid divers and although the diving wasn’t horrible, it definitely didn’t come close to Cozumel. It could have been the weather at the time but our Dive Master said that it was pretty standard visibility that day which was only about 30 feet.

The town is quaint, safe and easy to get around. We loved renting the golf cart and driving around the Island for a few days as well. The fish tacos at Bally Hoo are amazing…..not to be missed!! I wouldn’t hesitate to return to this amazing hotel. You will not be disappointed!

Hotel Villa Rolandi was the perfect place to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. It is quiet, relaxing, and clean. The pools and beach area are great places to relax and the staff is very helpful and will pretty much do anything to make your stay the best ever. It's a little out of the way but we liked that because you can rent a golf cart to go to other beaches and into town or take a taxi for about $8.00 US. This hotel costs a little more than some of the others on the island but having breakfast included and the transfer on Cacoon makes up for the cost and this place is worth a little extra. We will definitely go back as soon as we can.
