Great Family Friendly Hotel

Review of The Sens Cancun
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 12 Feb 2018
Stayed at the Grand Oasis Palm from Jan 26-30th. I went with My husband, in-laws and my two children age 17 months and 9yrs old. The Hotel Staff and all of the workers there were very friendly and helpful. I seriously never saw anyone not working or helping someone. Everywhere we went we were greeted with a smile and attentiveness was on point anywhere we went on the property. Check in had no issues we were on the 8th floor had a joining rooms which really helped out especially for the baby he was able to run in and out of the room see us and his grandparents.

Room- Had a security box but choose not to pay for it just locked my luggage with my valuables every time we left but there was never anything taken from the room or had anything missing. Rooms were cleaned every day and we always came back to a clean neat room. The mini fridge was stocked with complimentary bottles of water, soda and 'Sol' Beer. Everything worked in our room the lights, toilet, shower, sink, AC etc. There was WIFI if you wanted to purchase for the 5 days I think it was $25 for two devices. We did purchase it so that we could use our 'whats app' and contact family and the people we needed to contact on our excursions in Mexico while on the property.

Food- We really only ate at the Las Palmas Buffet in the Grand side for Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner it was always good had good assortment of salads, entrees, desserts. Our server Jorge was amazing. We had met him on the first night there and looked for him every time when we were in there. He always was on top of everything we needed with drinks and napkins utensils everything. My father in law shared music interest with him and he recommended some artist for us to listen too very attentive and very nice familiar guy.

One lunch we did try the buffet by the pool in the regular Oasis Palm side which had more Mexican inspired dishes and yummy horchata, Jamaica and tamarind drinks. Very good. Burgers were alright I think we are just used to a different type of meat in the states but the rest of the food was ok.

One Dinner we did eat at la bamba the restaurant specialized in seafood. The "dog fish" empanadas were so good I would have just ate more of those if I could. You had to pay extra if you wanted the lobster or fried red snapper. Portions were smaller but that's because you get a 5 course meal which was fine.

BEST THINK WAS THE COFFEE AND ME CAFE. I think were more in there then any other place. The coffee, Frappuccino's, cappuccinos, cookies treats were so good. We hit Coffee and me about 2-3 times a day.

Pools/Beach- The Pool water was COLD but hey you are out in 87 degree weather it wasn't that bad. Once you got in you were ok. My 9 year old would have stayed in the pools for most of the day if we let him. It was a little too cold for my toddler so I went to the Pirate beach club for toddlers where he played with legos and little play houses under my supervision. I also took him to the beach so he could play in the sand. My 9 year old loved the beach as well and went paddle boating with my husband on the beach he had a lot of fun. This was included we just had to give our room number and they gave us the paddles and live vest. My toddler sat with me in the hammock on the beach for awhile and played with the water. The waves are really calm on this side of the beach perfect for little ones and children. Yes there was some seaweed; but nothing crazy. *Word of advice bring your own floaties or live vest floats for the kids they do sell some floaties at the gift shops but they ran out fast.*

Entertainment- We only went to two night shows one was for the kids it had Disney inspired characters and they would sing the Disney songs in English and naturally in Spanish. The kids like the show very much they would clap or sing along to the actors on stage. The second show we saw was suppose to be a show of fire and drums but since it rained outside they took it inside and did a show of lights and drums. Let me tell you it did NOT DISAPPOINT. It was a lot of fun great beats from the drums and the glow in the dark lights show was amazing. The auditorium was packed so I would suggest to be there a little before it starts. Definitely was a great show I would hope they keep that show around for the guest.

Outdoor entertainment -when the mariachi bands played at night we would lay on the beach chairs and sip cocktails or get some drinks from la cantina and watch them outside and relax. My father in law especially enjoyed the music.

Kids Club- I wished I could have used the kids club more but we were there for a such a short time we only visited the kids club 2 hours before we checked out of our stay. It was suppose to open at 9am but we had to wait about 15 min I believe they were still vacuuming and cleaning the floors. Once we entered the video game section that my 9 yr old wanted to play in didn't open until 9:30 but even at 9:30 it still wasn't open so we played in the outside portion of the club. They played on the jungle gym and on the little trampoline. Then we went inside my son joined some other kids ina group and made a mask while my toddler played with all the toys in the room he loved the little train sets and toys. I wish we had more time and they could have enjoyed the pool at the kids club and the video game section; but like I said we only used it for 2 hrs while before we checked out and I stayed with them the whole time.

Cons- If there would be anything I would suggest to the hotel company it would be to get bigger Elevators or fasters working ones. At times this was the only cumbersome thing trying to get up or down from our room on the 8th floor. A lot of times there was congestion on the elevator so we just took the stairs.

Overall our stay at the Grand Oasis Palm was Very Good. We wished we had stayed longer and were able to try some of the other restaurants out. I really wished I had tried Maki Taco; but on the days we stayed at the hotel it was either too late or it closed for the day. I will definitely return back to this Hotel the staff are exceptional and there really is ALOT to do here with the kids if that is your main goal of a family oriented experience.
Date of stay: January 2018
Room Tip: I would choose a room on the Grand side and one on the lower floors because of the elevator it...

Reviewed 11 February 2018

This is my second time at this hotel in 2 years. I stayed there from the 29th of January till the 5th of February 2018. Overall it was a good experience again. There are still little fine tuning to consider. We were a family of four in our room. At the beginning of the week, we had four shower towels in our room. As the days went buy, we had three, then 2 towels???? I did not understand. We had to call room service to get extra towels. I also realized the first day we showered, there was no hairdryer in our room mounted on the bathroom wall like last year. I called the front desk and they told me that they did not have any and they would put me on a waiting list. This made no sense. Later on we spoke to the person who reserves the pirate ship ( cool activity to do with your kids) and we told them of our little problem and within the hour, they installed one in our room. What the hoot. Someone is not doing there job somewhere. The beach was crowded and the people playing volleyball (no room for a volleyball court) kept hitting people with the ball. My daughter was hit in the head with the ball and no one came to see or even say sorry. I think the volleyball court should be re located to prevent this from happening again. The food in general was good. The staff was very attentive to my daughters peanut allergy. The WHITE BOX restaurant...so so good...Adults only.. I want to thank Luis at the Maki Taco restaurant and Herwin our beach waiter at the bar. You guys are great and the reason why I ll go back to this hotel. And all the staff were good also. I recommend this hotel and will be going back for a third year. I think the hotel should upgrade the rooms for customers who go there more than once, like a valued customer. By the way, for travelers who came here last year, there was a fee for the safety deposit box. This time NO CHARGE!

Room tip: No choice in rooms unless you pay.

I will start this review reminding everyone that a 5 Star in Mexico is definitely not the same as a 5 star in Canada or the US, but vacation is a time to relax, enjoy and not sweat the small stuff.
We travelled to this resort Feb 1st-8th, with our children who are 9 & 12.
We had a room on the 6th floor facing the lagoon, it was spacious and served its purpose for the short time we spent in it. The water pressure was definitely poor in the shower but a quick morning rinse was always sufficient. As mentioned in almost every review, the elevators are slow and we used the stairs most of the time. We are thankful we are healthy and able to do this without a problem, if climbing stairs is a huge problem for you then request the lower floors.
Since we stayed at the Grand, we were allowed to sail on the Capitan Hook pirate ship for free ($80pp to book otherwise), The ship sails on Friday’s 1-3pm so be sure to book it as soon as you arrive, it’s a great trip not to be missed!
The resort itself was always clean and the staff work very hard to keep it that way. Due to unfortunate design the pool at the Grand is always shaded, it is a nice quiet place if you like that atmosphere. We spent most of our time at the other pool which had great music, a swim up bar and tons of fun activities like bingo, water aerobics, push up contest, dance lessons etc. Our kids really enjoyed the slides, trampoline and climbing cube in the kids pool.
The reservation system for the restaurants is a bit of a pain, you have to line up by 4pm daily at the restaurant you want to eat at that night. But we were able to get in without a problem, it was just a waste of a good 45min of time everyday. The a la Carte restaurants are excellent and far superior to the buffet, just be warned if you go to La Bamba (the seafood restaurant),your fish will come whole on your plate, bones, eyeballs and all 😳
The white box is AMAZING, adults only and you show up at 6:30, 7:30 or 9:00 for seatings and hope to get in, sooooooo good!!
The beach is nice and raked of seaweed daily, beware there are lots of seagulls that will swarm an unattended plate in a millisecond, so put your plates away as soon as you are done eating. The hammocks in the ocean are lovely and relaxing and worth a visit.
We ventured into town twice via the city bus, very easy to use and nice and cheap. The busses come every 5-10 min right out front of the hotel & we felt very safe.
We did meet many people who had nothing but complaints about the resort, but we were generally happy with our experience. We were there for the sun, sand and relaxation and this resort fulfilled all of those requirements. We would recommend this resort to anyone!

Grand oasis palm is a good all inclusive resort.
Food: the careye is amazing, the white box and las agvas are very nice. The breakfast buffet is good enough. The dinner buffet is also very good. But be careful. You should live in GRAND oasis palm not oasis palm beach. Only Grand can access these good restaurants. The buffet in the oasis palm beach side is not good.
Room: It's good enough for me. I stay outside room from 10:00am to 10:00 pm . Equipments are a bit old but works well.
Staff: very friendly and hard working.
Bar: beach bar is a bit busy and sometimes 15 minutes waiting. Other bars are nice and very short time waiting. But you need to stay in GRAND!
Beach: It's ok. some see weed and no fish.
shopping: some local gifts shop in walking distance and good enough
No free WIFI, painful :).

We went with a group of 19 people and stayed at the Grand side of the resort. The room itself is spacious and fits 2 adults and 2 kids comfortably. The only downside is even though the website states that blowdryer is included in the grand rooms, that was not the case. We had to go to each other's rooms to use the blowdryer since not all our rooms have it. The resort was pretty busy this time of the year i suppose so we were all situated on different floors.

The food was average. There is always something to eat at the buffets and restaurants but only a couple of them made us want to go back there to eat again. We spent half the time eating out instead. The place enjoyed the most is the coffee shop in the lobby!

The kids buffet was not always open - It says it opens at 1pm for lunch and 7pm for dinner but we went a few times and they were not open. I guess they only open when there were actually kids in the kids club. (We were accessing the kids buffet from the adults buffet instead of going through the kids club)

The location of the hotel is very convenient. It is right beside the ferry terminal to Isla Mujeres and the xcaret scenic tower and also a short walk to the local bus stops.

Since it was our first time visiting Cancun, we did not spend much time inside the resort to enjoy their facilities and programs but most of the staffs are friendly and understand English fine.

Overall It was a good stay with the family - there are hiccups with the rooms but they will try to resolve for you if you bring it to their attention.

Tips for people planning to go to this hotel:

1) A la carte restaurants booking are between 4pm-5pm. There are usually long lines for family a la carte restaurants but adults only restaurants usualy have short lines.

2) Captain Hook cruise is from 1pm-3pm on Fridays when we went. You are able to book it starting Wednesday. (They were located on the 2nd floor beside the sushi bar when we went and not at the main lobby)

3) You can get more bottled water at the front desk or at the coffee shop if you run out.

4) Restaurants don't charge corkage fee if you bring your own wine to the restaurants. We didn't really enjoy the house wine so we brought our own from the supermarket and wine store in town.

Room tip: South side (above front desk) for a quieter stay. Don't stay in the middle floors as it is impossible to get in an elevator.

Yup, the building and beach area huts are pink! Very clean, easy access for those who don’t really care to walk long distances. It’s a practical assembly of services for a South destination. Sister hotel, Oasis Palm, is on the same lot and clients can share restaurants of both hotels. Mexican food is flavorful and the common denominator for most outlets. The one ‘A la Carte’ restaurant worth exploring is the Careyes . . . Simply Outstanding ! It’s actually a Gourmet restaurant with phenomenal presentations including dry ice and it’s mist when water was poured at the table, leaving us speechless with that impressive chemical reaction. Desert time was a similar presentation effect, except that liquid nitrogen was used this time. Nightly entertainment is very good and impressive. The White box restaurant is also very good with a modern touch.

Room tip: All rooms are great.
