“a very good experience”
Reviewed 8 June 2012

We stayed at the Casa Magna for almost aweek and we had a good experience. The room view was great,i loved to watch the sunrise, trully a nice experience. The concierge for tour bookings to nearby maya destinatinations was extremelly helpful and nice- she made our experience so much better, as we did not plan in advance. The building is well maintained and clean and the staff was attentive most of the times. They have a few nice dinning options, and, as we tried most of them i would recommend the Thay place(outside setting, great food) and the Argentinian stake house.

Room Tip: ask for a high floor...

We stayed at the Casamagna for the first part of our vacation. Excellent choice, the hotel is in the perfect location, not to far away and not to close to all the noise at the end of the hotel zone. The pool and the beach was awesome. The beach water is a lot calmer than the beaches at the end of the hotel zone. We booked our hotel 1 day before leaving ( talk about cutting it close), we got an excellent rate that included a $50 a day spending allowance. This worked better than getting all inclusive because the first half of our trip we went out everyday and most excursions include all you can eat meals. This hotel also gives you access to the JW Martiott where you can go over and dine there and use the pool as well, although I thought Casamagna was better. Hotel lobby was beautiful and so was the rooms nice and spacious, just make sure you get an ocean and pool view room. Only issue I had with the hotel was the food, it was mediocre...we dined at the sports bar most nights, but there is a great restaurant right across the street I recommend to EVERYONE The Crab House!!! It's a must go!!! This hotel is very kid and family friendly will definetly stay here when we return!

My husband and I just celebrated our wedding aniversary going to Cancun and stayed at CasaMagna Hotel. It was AWESOME!. The staff is very helpful. Leonardo, the busboy alwasy with a smile and ready to help us. Very careful with details. The room had an incredible view of the pool and the beach. Great location...and the bill was exactly what we expected!

This would be our second stay at the CasaMagna in Cancun. Our first was nearly ten years ago. Although some signs of aging are visible in the hotel (rust spots in water features & in some areas of pool, raised paint/plaster on walls, etc.) the hotel is still maintained wonderfully and lovely to stay in.

We found most if not nearly all of the staff to be eager to provide assistance. The doorman was always smiling and holding the door, the concierge excellent, etc. The only times we experienced some difficulty were when asking for a certain few items to be sent up to the room, and when we requested an upgrade to our reservation.

The lobby and open areas are very beautiful and clean, and the view of the pool and ocean as you enter through the main doors breathtaking. We stayed in an 'ocean view' room and did indeed have a nice view of the ocean from our balcony. The rooms are a little tight on space though. We found ourselves having to move our luggage from one side to another from time to time, to maneuver around the room.

The pool is of nice size -- as we were visiting during a quiet period there were plenty of chairs and tables available around the pool, and never was it crowded. The service around the pool bar is also very good, and the food we ordered was far better than we expected for a pool-side bar/menu. The 'kiddie' pool however could use a real face-lift. It is small, and has nothing to attract little ones...no clever shape, no play features in or around it, just a little area off to the side with water. The hotel of course is also right on the beach, so if you would rather be playing in the beautiful blue waters of the ocean or just relaxing to the sound of the waves crashing, you just walk down a few steps and there you are. Umbrellas and chairs are already set up for you to enjoy.

While the property itself was great, the food at a couple of the restaurants could be better. The breakfast buffet is a must-have! While expensive, the array of foods available is vast, and everything tastes and looks fresh. They also change up the selection from day to day, not fully, but a few items here and there. My little ones (picky eaters) were even satisfied. The breakfast buffet is in the steakhouse, but we were disappointed upon arrival to learn the steakhouse was not open for dinner.

We did dine at the Thai and Japanese restaurants. Thai restaurant has great ambiance, but slow service, and the quality and taste of the food could definitely use improvement, especially considering that maybe a handful of tables were occupied. The Japanese restaurant too has a nice atmosphere. Service was faster, but food could still improve, and the menu seemed highly over-priced for what we got; actually both of these restaurants were overpriced for the portion and quality of what you receive.

Inside the lobby area of the hotel is the gift shop, in which you can buy small pastries, desserts, sandwiches, coffee, etc., among the usual items you'd find in such a place. Though we did not buy the main food items, others said it was good, and far more reasonably priced than other options. In here, they also have ice cream -- really worth trying! The strawberry, coconut, and oreo flavors were crowd-pleasers with our group, and the cones were a perfect finishing touch -- wonderfully crunchy without falling apart or being too sweet.

Aside from the above mentioned, one thing to note for those traveling from the US (and this is likely the same at any of the other resorts) -- while they ask at the restaurants and gift shop if you'd like to pay in US dollars or in pesos, your final bill is computed in pesos only. They will not charge in dollars, and the exchange rate for 'billing purposes' is considerably higher than the exchange rate they post for currency exchange if you ask them to convert dollars to pesos for you...so when you see the final bill, it may be higher than what you expect.

All in all, still a truly enjoyable vacation experience.

All that Glitters is not gold. Stunning hotel, attentive service and beautiful ocean views. However awoke the next morning covered in bed bug bites. Luckily we only stayed one night so avoided a repeat performance. Highly disappointing as the hotel excuses luxury and class. Will not stay here again.

We would have liked the opportunity to offer some medical assistance and check your room while you were here so we could verify what bugs affected you and learn if they came from our facilities. We maintain strict cleaning and control procedures to prevent any problems like the one you described.
