“Terrific Hotel and Super Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 September 2012

This property was wonderful. We stayed in the ocean front unit G723. Fantastic views of sunrise each morning. Lots of turtle crawls almost daily. The hotel and grounds are squeaky clean and manicured. The staff members were always friendly, helpful and seemingly happy. Food was pretty good, some nights it was excellent. The pasta and pizza night was super. We took the free shuttle to the Royal Sands for dinner one night and it was very good too. The only negative thing I can mention is the wifi bandwidth. It takes forever to load anything. I tried using Skype and it was barely marginal. Had to end call and try later at night at which time it worked.
If you are interested in sea turtles, they release the new hatchings at 8PM on the beach by the turtle enclosure. Call the desk to confirm as it is not every night that they do this.
Ultramar Ferry to Isla de Mujeres was nice side trip. We rented a golf cart for $45 USD for all day use and went all around the island in about 2 hours.
We also went to a nice Italian restaurant called Sabio's by La Dolce Vita. Great! Really enjoyed it.

Room Tip: Any of the oceanfront rooms are super, but they have ocean view.

I accepted the Interval International's offer of a free week with the purchase of a week in Cancun. I chose the Royal Caribbean. When we opened the villa door and walked in, we were all amazed at the gorgeous view. My daughter- in- law had tears in her eyes. Every day we all commented on how fortunate we were to be there together to enjoy this beautiful resort.
We needed to call the front desk twice for small maintainence issues and the doorbell rang within minutes both times. The entire staff was so friendly and competent.
One problem is that they have recently replaced the floor tiles and with any humidity from the dishwasher being run, a shower or a balcony door left open, the floors are so slippery that 3 of us almost fell, but thankfully caught ourselves just in time. Be very carefully!

Room Tip: The higher floors, ( we were on 11) at the back provides the most amazing panorama, and a good hike...

Once we got to this fabulous resort, we were thrilled! Getting there, on the other hand was a nightmare. We got ripped off by a rude taxi driver charging naive travelers 85$ US from airport to hotel. We did not know to ask for a shuttle from the resort, but next time, this is what we'll do.

Our room was spectacular, spacious, immaculate, with every amenity we could possible want. We purchased groceries for the week at the store on the property and were amazed that the prices weren't bad for this convenience. Restaurant on site is great, and staff is attentive, fast, and polite. Alex, our personal concierge, was available for all our needs and multiple questions. I would highly recommend taking one of the whale-shark tours if you are here in September as this was the highlight of our week. Isla mujeres was included in this outing, and is a quaint, beautiful island that is not to be missed. I would highly recommend exchanging US dollars for pesos (which can be done at the front desk for the same exchange rate as in town--amazing!). Once you're here, don't bother with taxis. The bus system will take you downtown to excellent restaurants, shopping and sites for a mere 8.5 pesos per person--a great bargain!

All in all, we would love to come back to the fabulous Royal Caribbean Cancun!

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean view. "A" side villas are bigger.

Four of us traveled to the RC over Labor Day and it was the first trip to Cancun for all of us. We exchanged through Interval Int'l and were not at all disappointed. The place is immaculate and the staff in the restaurants, pool bar and housekeeping were super friendly and accommodating. There are five or six "Royals" in cancun and guest at any of the hotels have access to the others. There is a fabulous Mexican restaurant at the Royal Sands which should not be missed and the Mayan (walking distance) has a dinner/drinks/show on Mondays that is great value - $30 for buffet and margaritas or beer. The rooms are spacious, comfortable beds, good cleaning service, well stocked kitchen, and a patio the full length of the villa with table and chairs as well as chaise lounges. The only reason I did not give the five stars is because they need more people working working the front desk and concierge desk. We waited over a half hour to check in and there were only three parties before us! Since check in is only Saturday, you would think they would have more people! Also, this is the same place that you exchange money, get resort credit, etc., so it takes forever with only one worker. Same problem with the concierge desk....every day they leave messages on your phone about activities and discounts, but again there was only one person working. The hotel staff will tell you that you have to book through them to get the discount, but for Aquatours and jet skis we just got fed up and went on our own figuring the $5 discount wasn't worth a half hour in the lobby....come to find out if you mention the Royal Hotel at the Aquatours window they will give you the discount anyway. Also, if you are interested in the day trip to Chichen Itza, consider booking through Viator - for $60 they will take you to swim in a cenote (underground cave), for a Mayan lunch and dancing show and then to the pyramids. You can get all the souvenirs you want at the pyramids for very cheap. Be prepared - it can get very hot so take a hat or umbrella and sunscreen. You will not be disappointed in the Royal resorts or the activities in Cancun! Enjoy!

Sorry I'm a bit delayed in writing this, but better late than never! Before I write about the wonderful Royal experience, please let me advise - when you plan your trip, arrange for the shuttle to the Royal resorts. Then, when you arrive in the Cancun airport (after customs), please WALK STRAIGHT TO THE ROYAL SHUTTLE - no matter who tries to stop you in the airport! That was our only not-so-wonderful experience...

Now on to the Royal Caribbean. From the start we were treated like valued guests. We had a concierge assigned to us - Don - and we thought he was just fantastic! I know it's his job to be kind, helpful, and to possibly sell us on the Royal properties - but he went above and beyond to just be a highlight to our vacation, not a pushy salesman. He assisted us with reservations, transportation, and never stopped making sure we were having a great time.

The room we had was fantastic - really spacious, well cared for (very clean), and was a home away from home. Well, except that our actual home doesn't have the AMAZING view from the balcony! :)

The resort is defintely family friendly, although it was just myself and my husband on this trip (celebrating our anniversary). We loved the pool area and the landscaping and layout of the resort. The restaurant was great - especially the juevos rancheros at breakfast, made right on the spot for us. YUM! Transportation was really easy, safe, and convenient. We loved being able to visit the other resorts and take advantage of their offerings, all while using our Royal room card to manage expenses.

We are looking forward to staying with Royal again in the coming year, this time at the Royal Haciendas in Playa del Carmen. Another review will come then...

Room Tip: We're big fans of upper floor rooms, but the ground level rooms had direct paths out to the pool...
