Upon arriving at Royal Solaris we walked into a out dated, no thrills lobby area. We weren't greeted with smiling staff or excitement, no drinks upon arrival. The lobby is your basic hotel lobby with unfriendly front desk employees. We were then rushed off with a pushy women wanting us to commit to scheduling a tour with her that day or the very next day, after traveling and already being disappointed by the lobby/employees we just encountered the last thing we wanted was to commit to a tour. She then had her supervisor come over and say if we put down $20. and show for a tour they would offer gifts...we said NO of course and never sure why they were asking for money. The first impression was horrifying and very disappointing.
We finally got to our room which is basic, no Wow factor, outdated. We finally went down to eat at the buffet, which was a normal buffet.
The pool and outdoor area was pretty and made you feel like you were on vacation. The entertainment staff by the pool kept things going with activities and fun. The pool bar was disappointing, we would swim up and sit for 10 minutes while being ignored by the 5-6 men behind the bar before they would help you. Then we found Abner who walked the pool and served drinks. He was wonderful and personable. He was a hard worker and always moving.
The breakfast buffet was good food and every day asked to sit in Samuel Sosa's section. He was such a wonderful server, always happy, he made us feel welcome and was fun to see every morning.
We ate the pizza and buffet by the pool for lunch which was nice. Swimming and eating whenever you were ready. The pizza was very good and the outside buffet was perfect to pick at.
Dinners were tough. We were under the impression that there were more than the buffet, the outdoor dinner area and Rosamaries (which we did not go to, due to needing reservations). We ate mostly at the buffet for dinner which became a challenge due to weird mixes of food put out which didn't seem to work with each other.
The theater shows were good and we enjoyed seeing the day time entertainers in the shows.
The lobby bar had good bar tenders and servers. But the ceilings would drip water on you while you sat to watch the singer. This hotel has a nice outdoor area but never offered any activity or music/dj by the pool area in the evening. All night activities were indoors in a very outdated lobby bar area and every night was a singer that was a hit or miss on entertainment.
Overall, our son and us enjoyed the pool area and beach, my son enjoyed the entertainment team which kept everyone of all ages involved and having fun. But the hotel itself was a huge disappointment. Don't be fooled by the previous reviews stating you can use the restaurants at their 2 other hotels...that is not the case unless you are a "member". And there is NO room service. When we booked we read there was 24 hour room service, we learned the first night they didn't offer any room service except 1 complimentary breakfast, fruit and coffee.
