Don't waste your time OR money on this resort!

What a joke this place is!! We always have stayed at another resort but decided to try this one. We learned the grass IS NOT greener on the other side. This place was a train wreck from day one. I requested several times with the hotel and our butler prior to our arrival we wanted a king bed for our swim up room. My husband is 6'5" so a double is not an option. We arrived to a room with 2 double beds. We requested another room and there were none available until the next day after 3. So we sucked it up and make the best of the first night in that room. A/C never got cold so it was miserable. Next day we were able to move to a King room. A/C did work better but fridge didn't cool anything and the toilet was constantly clogged. Made a request on the app for repairs and no one ever showed up. Finally was told by the check in desk the next day to go to guest services. Finally about 7 hours later the problems were fixed.
Food was horrible! The buffets were literally a joke. Previous places were have stayed had at least 7 "islands" of buffet foods. This place had 2. Most items were repeats of the night before. The hibitchi grill was good the first night but totally different taste and entertainment the 2nd time we went. We didn't try the other restaurants as none of the menu items interested us. The munchies bar at lunch had good nachos. That is it. Nothing else was good or had any flavor. The taco bar in the evenings was decent. Nothing exciting but better than most foods there. The pastry/ice cream was good. We did eat ice cream several times a day. Flavors were hit and miss daily.
The mall was walking distance down the street. We didn't have any issues walking there or back at night. Thankfully there were places to eat there (Johnny Rockets) so we were able to have something to eat that was decent and tasteful.
Construction on the main pool - right in front of our swim up room from sun up to after sundown. The main tower also had construction going on. Thankfully we are beach people so we could get away from the constant noise. Constant noise ALL DAY long! The late evening noises outside our swim up room (room 3014) in the common area never stopped until way after midnight. In our opinion, the swim up room IS NOT worth it as the water is freezing and you can't get in it. They are also numerous kids jumping in at the end railings and playing in the swim up pool, so there is no relaxation.
Beach chairs are few and far between considering the size of this resort.
We've learned that "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" so we will return the resort we have always frequented and enjoy it that much more after staying here.
If you have the choice to book somewhere else....don't think twice, just do it! Anywhere is better than this resort!

We had to wait over an hour to get checked in because they failed to update our reservation. We were not told that the hotel had major renovations when we booked. There was loud banging outside our room every morning at 9am. There was also loud construction by the pool. Simply no place to hide from the noise. The restaurant quality was average at best. Absolutely terrible. Will not be coming back.

Bartenders Gabino, Aurelio and Angel from bar Cassie were friendly and served us good drinks. I like their professionalism and friendly hospitality. They suggested us good drinks and made sure we had fun all night long. They made us feel welcomed.

Bartenders Gabino, Aurelio, and Angel served us well at bar cassis. They served us tequilla shots and mojito drinks. We had lots of fun, we danced a lot, drank a lot. We were lots of friends and they were there to make sure we are served well. Thank you team!

Food was awful, most of the staff was excellent a part from a couple grumpy bartenders. Half the resort was under construction. Meaning the main pool area was off limits. One of the specialty restaurants was closed many nights of our stay with no warning. The building my room was in was under construction so wasn’t able to sleep in or take naps if wanted. No notice of renovations at all prior to booking or travel date.

We really enoyed our stay at Grand Park Royal Cancun. I wish we were made aware of the renovations prior to spending the extra money on a swim up room that I could not utilize due to all of the construction noise that did not end until 9pm. Also, the buffett doesn't have any hot breakfast non pork options.
