Our Tradition and Experiences Continue...

We have stayed here many times and it continues to not disappoint. One can never always control the weather, as it is hurricane season, but one thing that is consistent is the high quality of wonderful experiences at one of our favorite vacation ownership properties.

It begins with at the front drive with warm welcomes and hugs by Gabriel, Oscar,
Roger, et al., who take care of our luggage seamlessly. We continue to receive efficient service at the Elite Check-In Desk. We were again pleased with our villa, with housekeeping also doing a thorough cleaning. When we needed maintenance, they were prompt and accommodating, with Antonio of note. Our Concierge Service was efficient and well-done.

We recognize exemplary service and name names. We enjoyed the food and festivities at the Oceano (Steak Night) and Duna Restaurants. Victor holds court at Duna Sports Bar with fun cocktail service, with a flair, and Armando may be the fastest bartender in Cancun! Viento and Duna pool bars have an extraordinary cadre of bartenders and servers that provide great fun and service, including Willie, Felipe, Jorge, Luis, Jonathon, Francisco, Edgar, Alejandro, and others. The Golden Boy Celebration Belles announce the beginning of fun in the afternoon. The pool servers, lead by Williams, Jabir, et al, were very attentive to our needs.

There are many activities for patrons to participate in and enjoy. The Heavenly Spa is a world-class facility, with great services provided by its staff; Carlos and Vickie are very special and always a vacation highlight! If you are ever bored here, then you are probably just boring!

Overall, the Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Villias and Spa continues to set the high standard of vacation ownership experiences to us and we look forward to our next return.

Beware of eating at the buffets. I ate at the Taco Tuesday Mexican Fiesta at the on-site Oceano Restaurant and within 2 hours had a severe gastrointestinal bacterial infection. I spent 7 hours in the ER to rehydrate and to get antibiotics. The management at the Westin was only willing to credit our bill for 1 buffet charge. That isn’t very smart customer service.
Just be cautious of eating at the open air buffets on-site. I wouldn’t wish my experience on anyone.

Room tip: Beware of eating at the buffets. I got a bacterial infection within 2 hours of eating at an on-site buffet. Spent 7 hours in the ER.

Our stay at the Westin Laguna Mar was one of the worst we’ve had in 30 years of traveling the world.

2 major issues:
1. The room smelled overwhelming like paint thinner. We checked in, got our luggage and went to swim at the pool. When we returned to our room a couple hours later it smelled incredibly strongly like paint/paint thinner/cleaning supplies. It was so bad it immediately gave me a headache and we had to keep our child outside the room. The smell did not dissipate with all doors/windows open. We called the front desk and they told us there was some painting going on elsewhere in the building; they could not tell us if the painting would continue on other days of our stay. When we asked to change rooms they told us nothing was available and the hotel was full. When we persisted, highlighting the safety issue for our child, they found a room in another building for us. When we complained about the trouble of unpacking and now having to repack, and move rooms within four hours of arriving, we were offered a $25 gift card for the resort. We ended up deciding to move to the JW Marriott given the similarity in price and the poor way this situation was handled.
2. ALL of my clothes were STOLEN from the room. We hurriedly packed up our things so we could get to our new hotel before dinner and bedtime for our child. In our rush, we missed four drawers worth of my clothing – our mistake, but we called the Westin as soon as we unpacked at the JW and they told us no clothes were found in the room. After much back and forth on the phone, I showed up in person at the Westin the next morning. The front desk manager reiterated no clothing was found and proceeded to smirk at me throughout our conversation. When I said I was going to file a police report, they suddenly called the security manager who also said he could not help. I then asked the hotel to call the police department for me at which point another manger-type was called to join the conversation. In the meantime, I was given a paper to list all the clothing that was missing – upon seeing the list including descriptions and prices of items, the manager offered to check lost and found. Their initial ‘search’ of lost and found turned up nothing. When I persisted, they came back with a small bag of my clothing. When I highlighted all the items that were still missing, the staff was magically able to ‘find’ another bag of my clothing. This all took place over a few hours based on my extreme persistence, plan to call the police to the hotel, etc. I ended up getting about 75% of my clothing back, but it was clear my clothing had been tried on. The remaining missing clothing included two bras – the thief took the bras, but left the pads that go with the bras. Gross and weird. Although having a record of who went into the room to clean it after we departed, no additional action was taken. After continued follow ups after our departure, I was eventually given points from Marriott to ‘cover’ the inconvenience. The entire situation was handled very unprofessionally and it was extremely disappointing to have to go to such lengths to get my belonging back.

More minor issues:
• Check in took forever
• Ordering lunch at the pool bar also took forever and the food was very mediocre
• Be aware it is a VERY crowded hotel with people playing their own music around the pool, etc.

This was our family’s first time to stay at this resort and we loved it! We had a few issues with keys not working and a disabled elevator but that did not bring us down. The rooms were beautiful as well as our view of the beach and pools. The staff really enhanced our stay. The fitness center was well stocked and my husband and I were so pleased that we could continue our workouts. I loved all of the yoga classes with Patricia and Alejandro did a great job with activities and made them so much fun. The salsa lessons were my favorite and I loved the music that was provided in the afternoons. Our grandkids counted down the hours to happy hour each day and loved their smoothies and shakes. The beach had the softest sand I have ever experienced. Our sons in law loved the big waves that were a result of Hurricane Milton. Our grandkids spent hours in the pool which was not crowded whatsoever. We met some wonderful people and left with new friendships. We only left the property one time to shop at Mercado 28 because everyone was so happy to stay and play at the resort. Because of the size of our family we rented three cars that we barely used. In the future, we will take a transport from the airport to the resort and use Uber eats from Costco for the food that we need.

Room tip: As stated in my review, we rented cars, which we barely used at all because we were happy to just stay on the property.

OMAR RIVERA RUINED MY CHECK IN. HE IS SO CONDESCENDING WITH A HUGE EGO EVEN AFTER HE MESSED UP MY RESERVATION. IM HIGHLY SURPRISED HES GM OF RESERVATIONS. DUE TO HIS NASTY BEHAVIOR NO ONE AT THE RESORT IS GETTING TIPPED. THEY CAN THANK HIM.

Overall very nice hotel. It is a huge property. Takes a while to get your bearings around the property. Amenities are great. My wife and I purchased a couple massage and it was phenomenal. We got into a hot tub before the massage. They serve you chocolate covered strawberry’s and champagne after the massage. I would highly recommend the spa. The pools are large and the layouts are great. The staff is very friendly. The air conditioning in our room was amazing, cold just like we wanted. The store down stairs is essentially a grocery store on the property but get ready to pay for the convenience of the store. If you are not looking for an all-inclusive resort, then this is a good option. The only down side was our queen size bed. We are used to a king size. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
