If you are reading this you’re trying to decide on which hotel to go to from the SPG chain. I’m going to give an overview on the hotel as well as Cancun. It might help you make a decision as to what resort to go to.
First the Hotel.
No surprises here. Well taken care facilities with great and friendly services, delicious food and drinks. MUST try the Lagunamar drink by the pool. I had a few every day. Delicious!!! 
One slide, huge pool,the entire pool is less than 5 feet deep with lots of places for toddlers to splash. Peace of mind for me for sure, with my younger son.
We spent News Years Eve there. They had a NYE dinner but nothing else. I was expecting a celebration like in the Sheraton Vistana/Orlando where they had a DJ with a big screen TV on the pool deck. But no, nothing like that, and the pool was closed at 10pm with the hot tub opened 24hours. I was a bit disappointed but it didn't ruined for us, after all, we were in Cancun. 
The hotel is located right across from a big shopping mall with Starbucks and many restaurants including Hooters, we didn’t go there as we were into the local food and not chains. There's also rental car companies across the street, the price to rent a car is $65 including all taxes and insurance. We don't like tours so renting a car was better for us as we were planning a visit to Tulum. I was a little tense abt driving in Mexico but no worries there. It was a straight shot to Tulum with huge hotels and spas along the way. The road is in good condition and safe. I was told by a hotel staff to keep on the speed limit bc if I got pulled over I would have to bribe the offices to let me go without a ticket. Fair enough!!! Brazil was the same thing. 

Cancun 1

ONE IMPORTANT info I want to give you is the bus there...is a little weird and it can be scary but you just need to know how it works. After a long day, my son was complaining abt being tired and hot while we were walking on the side walk towards the bus stop when a bus randomly stopped and waves us in. In a impulse we went in, but once in, I was a bit nervous and regretful abt getting in a bus. The bus driver often will have an assistant waving in tourist or locals inside the bus. They have regular stops but they can also take people in while waiting for a light to go green. It feels quite strange. But it's legit!!! It's normal. As long as the bus is RT 1 or Rt 2 you are in the right bus heading back to the hotel. The bus is 10.50 pesos.
We also took the bus to go Tortuga beach and from there to Isla da Mujeres. It was a 20 mins ferry and the island is nice and fun with lots of shops and restaurants. I bought a beach wrap there for 325 pesos and the same wrap was 199 pesos at the Xcaret. Be aware! 
The nice thing about the island is that you can rent a golf cart to get around. We arrived at 12:30 and wanted to leave before 6 so we decided not to rent one. The price for the day at that hour was 700 pesos and or 250 for two hours. I overhead someone saying it takes 45 minutes to loop the island.

Cancun 2

First and foremost! My husband and I with our sons 13 and 8 felt super safe while there. Our experience was amazing. Cancun has a lot to offer. The colors, the food, the drinks, the music and these people’s happiness were contagious to us.
Your money will go far here. Things and food are cheaper than the Bahamas and there's more to do, also having excess to public transportation makes a big difference.

We had a great, great time in Cancun. We really loved the there.
