The service is awesome, special thanks to Teresa, she helped us with our booking becauase Expedia cancelled it without any reason. The breakfast is ok. Beds are no the coolest ones but the location is perfect! Thank you!

This was our 2nd stay at Hotel Casona Oaxaca in the past year and we were very happy with that decision. This is an older property but well maintained. Very friendly and helpful staff. We had pleasant interactions with multiple front desk personnel, the breakfast waiter and housekeeping. Good breakfast. Great location for walking to all kinds of good restaurants, bars, markets, galleries and museums. I doubt you could do much better in Oaxaca for the cost. We likely will stay there again on our next visit to the city.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street are a bit noisier but the back rooms are quiet.

I love old hotels that obviously have a history. This one was probably a Catholic convent at some point in the past, although it's been a hotel (under a different name) for some time now. It appears that a new management has taken it over recently and is anxious to upgrade it. There are many nice features. The buffet breakfast is organized for either Mexican or North American tastes. The staff is very helpful with advice about visits (for example, we were wisely counselled to get up early to visit the Monte Alban archaeological site before the tour buses). The hotel itself is located in the epicenter of old Oaxaca, within easy walking distance of everything you might want to say. My only reservation has to do with the rooms. They are largely windowless and rather basic in amenities. Also, when you rise quite early in the morning (as we had to do to visit Monte Alban) there isn't any hot water yet. But these are minor quibbles. I think this hotel has great potential to appeal to interesting travelers, both Mexican and foreign, and I look forward to visiting it and lovely Oaxaca yet once again. By the way, we ate at the restaurant across the street (I think it is called Don Juanito) and liked the food so much we went back every day of our stay.

Given the structure of the property you're either in a super super quiet room or one from which you can hear cars passing by. But the staff were extremely accommodating and let us know upon check in that if we were at any point uncomfortable with the room we had we could always switch wing.
The rooms are very big with lots of services and facilities to enjoy. Just ask the friendly staff! They even help organizing tours around Oaxaca. Breakfast is extremely delicious! Hotel is perfect walking distance from Oaxaca main spots.

We were part of a large group that stayed for five nights in mid-March, and we couldn't have been happier with the choice. The hotel is perfectly located, a block from the zócalo, near most of the historic sites of the colonial center, a mere two blocks from the Juárez market, within a five-ten minute walk of some of the premier restaurants in the city.
The hotel itself is lovely--small, with a wonderful center courtyard, with most rooms quite commodious (and some recently renovated). Despite being so close to the center, I was surprised by how quiet the hotel was--even when some of the younger guests gathered in the courtyard for talks well into the evening it wasn't enough to disturb our sleep. The king bed was quite comfortable, and the shower (and bathroom) quite large and well arranged.
I particularly loved the breakfasts, served in the central courtyard! The selections often included really good chilaquiles, plus eggs prepared differently every day, normally a meat offering (in mole); there was an ample selection of breakfast breads and rolls, very good coffee, and fresh-squeezed orange juice.
And I also loved the service. The front desk staff were always solicitous and helpful; the waiter who handled bar orders in the late afternoon and evening was always prompt and friendly, and was happy to deliver either to the courtyard or to our room. The manager checked in with one or another of us fairly regularly, and made us feel warmly welcomed and appreciated.
We'll surely return to Casona Oaxaca when next in the city. It's a great choice in every respect, and I recommend it most highly.

Room Tip: Request one with a window; rooms off the center courtyard lack these.
