When I arrived at the hotel they could not find my reservation. Gave me a room anyway and told me they would look into it. A few hours later called to let me know it was found, had been paid for and included breakfast. It looks like a small hacienda, but the rooms have all been redone...each by a different artist. Very charming. Staff is exceptional. Very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was incredible. If you eat a full breakfast you don't need to eat the rest of the day. Had dinner there twice..small menu but food is fabulous.

Room Tip: top floor is the quietest...away from the street

We liked this place. Staff was friendly and responsive. Breakfasts (only meals we ate there) were quite good. Kind of rustic, which gave it a local feel. They lost a star for us because we had air conditioner problems two nights; the second night was especially irksome because we’d reported it the first night.

My wife and I chose Hotel Azul as the location for our wedding. We live in Berlin and therefore were never able to visit the hotel directly. Nevertheless from the start we were left with a super good impression based on our phone-call and email interactions with the hotel - in particular stemming from the hotel management's availability, professionalism and understanding of our hopes in terms of our wedding planning.

We could not be happier with our decision. The hotel is beautiful, its location is ideal, the staff is extremely friendly, the food is tasty, and I especially need to compliment the Hotel General Manager for her non-stop support in making sure we had the best wedding imaginable. By the way, she is fluent in English, German and Spanish which really helped facilitate things.

In short - if you are considering this hotel for your stay in Oaxaca, even if its for a wedding or not, don't look any further. This is an outstanding choice which you will not regret.

Room Tip: The Dubon Suite is super interesting

This hotel was lovely -- really beautiful, just a few blocks from the main part of the historic center. Really nice staff. They gave us a sip of their house mezcal as we were checking in. The breakfasts are sensational, a great way to start your day in Oaxaca. The rooms are really pretty -- a good combo of Oaxacan style with contemporary elegance. They give you a locally made hat and scarf when you check in, there's nice amenities and plenty of filtered water, and a couple superb Oaxacan chocolates awaiting you when you get home at night. Only criticism, the rooms are a bit dark -- the shuttered windows let in hardly any light, so it's hard to tell if its day or night. But I got over that.

Room Tip: Looks like upstairs rooms may have skylights, which would let in a little more light.

Dear guest,
Thank you for write your experience with us, is great to know that you were happy here.
The windows are special in the standar rooms, it has 3 parts; the first part we can open and see only the natural light between the wood, the second part (glass) we can open and see the light, feel the air and third part (all the window) we can open and see the outside (patio, people, other rooms…). In the suites the windows are similar. I would like to extend our apologies if the staff forgot mentioned you the information about the windows.
Thank you and we hope see you soon in Hotel Azul again!

My wife and I spent Labor Day weekend, 2017 at Hotel Azul and used it as our base in Oaxaca. It was an unforgettable experience due to the comfortable and artistic ambiance of the hotel as well as the top quality food and 5 star attention of the staff. We stayed in the beautiful Toledo Suite, which was designed by and named after famed Mexican (and Oaxacan) artist Francisco Toledo. If you want an experience you will remember for the rest of your life, go to Oaxaca and stay at Hotel Azul! We have not stayed in a hotel anywhere on the planet that we would rate higher.

Room Tip: Choose the Toledo Suite for a unique room designed by this famous artist
