We booked late for Christmas in Oaxaca and found it hard to find a place to stay. This place popped up and though it was a ways up the highway in a suburb, we grabbed it, and actually we were happy how it turned out. Getting to the center of town was easy-- an $8 cab or catch any bus passing by, basically, and you'd get to at least the outer edge of the the central part. (The buses are about 50 cents; it's about 20 minutes to downtown, but that's more the traffic than the distance.) The area was fairly quiet (except the one night there was a wedding reception in the outdoor ballroom) and the condo, if a bit spartan, was pleasant enough; the staff had varying levels of English but they were always as helpful as they could be.

The area it was in was nothing special, but it was interesting just to have it to wander around, pick up tacos al pastor or roasted chicken at one of the restaurants nearby. On the weekend this area is where you come to try to sell your used car, and so there were lots of taco stands that popped up. We enjoyed seeing this non-touristed area and, seeing the crowds around the Zocalo late nights, probably were better off staying here than if we'd been closer to that area.

Tourists probably wouldn't be staying in this little town, but business people might have to and it wold be a very frustrating experience. I was shooting s few scenes in a movie and had to share a bungalow with someone who I did not know on a different schedule but the management would only give us one key The internet hardly works, there are no telephones in the rooms.

If it weren't for the fact that the food was surprisingly good and the service personnel were terrific,I would not have given it any stars at all, The reception personnel and management in general were most uncooperative and they made for a very unpleasant stay.

Room tip: Stay in the back, away from the reception area.

Quite rustic, but nice, the only issue is the internet connection.

Need to improve its speed and wifi range, besides that it's a nice place to stay.

Nice laundry service.

The food at the restaurant can be better, not all their food have the flavor you'll expect.

Does not have really the announced stars, Service is terrible and the rooms are in regular conditions, you can find much better alternatives with better location because this one is bad located. If you ask for a taxi at the front desk, you have to pay the call apart.... Not the best detail.

Great hotel, out of the rat race of downtown Oaxaca. Drove into town without reservations or really knowing where we wanted to stay. After an hour in downtown traffic looking for a hotel (or even a parking space to go walking), decided to stay on the outskirts at the first decent looking place, and cab it into downtown to see the sights. Very glad we stumbled across the Villas. New mananger Armando made us feel like guests as opposed to just renters. No need to cab it downtown, they have a shuttle that reportedly runs 3 times a day, but Armando made it clear that it was o.k. just to let him know when we wanted to go downtown, and within 15 minutes the shuttle was waiting for us. Rooms large, clean, and quiet, Good pool and gardens. Restaurant was adequate, nothing spectacular. Overall a very good experience at a reasonable price.
