Very cozy restaurant with tasty and cheap food. Went there in the first day of our trip and returned for lunch. Very courteous service. Simple but delicious Mexican food. Right in the Zocalo. Do not miss the mole negro!

One of the must to do when visiting Oaxaca, excellent mole, tlayudas and tasajo. Great service and hospitality!

Good food and service all at a reasonable price. The restaurant is upstairs in the zocalo area, so it has nice views and is less hectic than the restaurants at street level.

La Casa de la Abuela restaurant name translates as Grandmothers House. It is located upstairs of the two story building directly across from the Cathedral and the Zocalo, and has views of the Zocalo and Cathedral. Known for its traditional Mexican dishes cooked home style like a Mexican grandmother would cook. Large selection of dishes. Our group of six on tour ate here for dinner overlooking the Christmas tree in the square, Santa Clauses and general Christmas crowds and festivities. There are many more exotic dishes, such as one of our group had grasshopper tacos. Grasshoppers are a normal food sold in the markets. Excellent fast service and friendly staff and Excellent food was experienced by everyone in the group.

Translated as grandmother’s house. Food is very homely, fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. Views are wonderful towards the main square, Zócalo, and the gorgeous cathedral. It is like eating at home. The staff is very friendly.
