La Casa de la Abuela is a darling place, with great choices. The mole chicken was particularly outstanding. Nice margaritas, too.

We were in Oaxaca City for 10 days and ate at La Casa de la Abuela three times! Loved the food, the staff, and good prices. We enjoyed the tapas and the chance to sample a lot of moles and dishes. There's also a beautiful view of the cathedral from their windows!

Our MexTrotter tour guide recommended this place for us and we absolutely loved it. You can sit at street level on the square, however you do get hounded by all the buskers with their hands out constantly asking for tips, which we find so annoying. We went upstairs which gave you a beautiful view over the square.
We had a good house red wine and shared a beautiful mixed salad and we had a steak meal each. It was good traditional homely food set in a traditional setting. The portions were generous and so delicious. Service was excellent and you can see why they're so proud of all the awards they've won.
We bumped into a young Dutch couple who tentatively were looking to eat here and we said go go it's fantastic. They did and we bumped into them several days later in Palenque ruins and we recognised each other. They thanked us so much for the recommendation as they said for them it was one of their best meals in Mexico. Little did we know that we had continuous amazing food finds thanks to travelling with an amazing foodie Spanish couple.
