El Penulo is a must visit every time we're in Mexico City. There are smaller branches in the Zona Rosa and Condesa, but the Roma store is the granddaddy of them all, offering not only a sensational array of books and videos, but an excellent cafe/restaurant and a rooftop performance space that plays host to readings, concerts, and (best of all) silent film screenings with live musical accompaniment. For international cinephiles, there are few better places in the city to stock up on Mexican and Latin American DVDs and Blu-Rays. It's easy to spend a half-day here just browsing the selections; fortunately, excellent sustenance is right inside the store.

I love the layout and decor of this place and I have never seen any establishment like this in any other parts of the world I have visited.

It's excellent for spending the afternoon with a big cup of coffee and a nice cake.

If you are into some unique coffee / Frapucino concoction I think you are better place in StarBucks but if you want a Truly unique experience to be surrounded by cool books then this is highly recommended.

Visit the second floor outdoor deck in the summer. It has a wonderful tree house feel and in the evening it has wonderful fairy lights and it's truly magical :)

This is on my must visit place when I am in Polanco.

Amazing place! Wonderful combination between a restaurant, a coffee shop and a (very complete) library, located in the heart of one of the most beautiful neighborhoods of Mexico City. Affordable prices and an excellent staff complete the experience.

Place has a nice atmosphere and is a good place to do some work or have a read as it doubles up as a book store. Food is average.
