Wonderful museum in the heart of the Centro Historico. One of its major features is a stunning staircase. Start from the top with its dark paneled rooms giving it a distinct historic feel and make yourway tothe lower floors to the more recent modernist art.

Please do give budget to this museum!!! Amazing architectural corners are falling dirty!! And so many more mexican art proposals are missing from it!! Is just sad. If you are a tourist step inside and see the beautiful building and some of the art of these lands since they were conquered. Be sure to eat at El Cardenal at the plaza after you leave. You have to pay an extra for pictures on your way in, at least one of your group has to pay it, you will find lovely picture spots inside. Visit the tiny store on your way out, this is the place to find lovely nice souvenirs to take home. If you are on a terrible hurry you may get in for free if you specify you want ONLY to go the store. Of course they will make sure you do!!

I have never been to Europe to see the art museums there but I would be willing to be this would impress any die hard art lover. At 60 pesos it is a world class gem.

The museum is on Tacuba street, steps from the pedestrian strip of Francisco Madero. The building is very imposing from outside, but very impressive and beautiful once inside. The collection revolves around colonial and republican art. The museum's collection contains a number of paintings that are famous for their depiction of a Mexican national identity, including a beautiful painting by Jose Maria Obregon titled "El Descubrimiento del Pulque" roughly translated as "The discovery of pulque". The museum is well visited, but because it is a very large building, it does not feel crowded. The gift shop is worth a stop. I highly recommend this museum. Great experience.

The building and the art within it are impressive. It might be easy to skip over this museum with all the city has to offer, but I highly recommend a visit -- even if just a few hours one afternoon. It's proximity to Bellas Artes makes it a nice compliment to a visit there.

Thank Jennifer H
