I'm becoming a big fan on the historic center of Mexico City, everytime a friend is in town we head there but this time it was my first time at Palacio Nacional, we enjoy seeing the impressive building and the botanical garden but of course the Diego Rivera Murals and amazing, they tell his view of the history of Mexico and it's fantastic to see they are kept in pristine condition. All you need to get in it's an ID, visit the art-crafts shop and the library. If you are downtown and have an extra hour to see the not too touristy stuff, Don't miss it.

The Diego Rivera Murals were out of this world definitely a must see. Also the entire palace area was just serene and beautiful.

The Palacio Nacional is an impresive goverment building on the Zócalo. It fills the entire east side of the Zócalo and is over 200 meters long. The facade of the Palacio Nacional has a special red tezontle facade.
The buidling is famous because on the main balcony on September 15, the president of Mexico gives the Grito de Dolores, in a ceremony to commemorate Mexican Independence.
We went inside the Palacio Nacional especially to see the great murals of Diego Rivera about the history of Mexico. The Palacio Nacional is worth a visit.

I recommend paying the $400 pesos for one hour guide. This made the visit much more interesting as he told us more about the paintings of Diego Rivera. Without his help we would have not seen all the information in the paintings.
