Good Mexican food, great service and a fun atmosphere, with most of the crowd local families, with lively music and a feeling of hospitality. Though on the dear side by local standards, it is still very affordable for gringos...

My partner surprised me by arranging a trip to this restaurant and as we approached and I heard the raucous shouting and the loud mariachi music I thought please no!!!!
We were on the brink both unsure and then we both decided ok let's see, but with foreboding.

Well two minutes through the door and this changed. The noise and fun in the place are utterly infectious. The two mariachi bands that were there on the night we went were really great and the place was hopping with customers. The restaurant gimmick is enormous cocktail glasses filled with enormous margaritas. Once we had decided to let ourselves go we threw ourselves at these tourist trap drinks with abandon, except I don't think they are tourist trap drinks. Everybody in there except us seemed to be Mexican. Lots of family groups, parents and grandparents celebrating their little boys first birthday. Married couples as part of large groups being serenaded and even dancing to the mariachi bands who performed for them, sang happy birthday and so on. The huge cocktails went to lots of those tables and lots of fun was had by all.

The food was all very tasty and the price was good.

We entered apprehensively and left feeling really cheerful and with life affirmed plus pleasantly fed and watered for a really engaging couple of hours witnessing lots of charming occasions. It really was nice to see all those celebrations and special meals and made our evening a celebration.

It was a noisy place but the noise was a delightful soundscape to the evening and well worth experiencing.

My family recently relocated to Mexico City. My in-laws were visiting and we took them to Villa Maria (it was also my first time here). We loved the ambiance from the moment walked in with the live mariachi band! We were seated upstairs and received great service, which was wonderful given that we had two toddlers in our party. The margaritas were delicious and huge, the food overall was amazing! Everyone in our party enjoyed the food! We dined earlier than normal and were happy to get their early. On our way out a busload of diners had just arrived. We definitely can't wait to return and bring more of our future visitors.

This place was out of the way for us but recommended by our local friend. The drinks were great and the large margaritas are really huge...about the size of 5 normal sized ones. the live music was great and so was the food.

5p* Villa María
Calle Homero 704
Col. Polanco
Great restaurant in Mexico City; highly recommend
Mexican food
Fantastic assortment of tequilas; the margaritas are wonderful (10 flavors e.g. passion fruit, small or large)
The ambience is very good with humorous signage everywhere including the bathrooms
Excellent mariachi group comes in at 9 pm
Good service by staff
The appetizers were good e.g., guacamole and queso fundido (recommend)
They had two mole main dishes, one with chicken, the other with turkey; they were very tasty
Save room for one of the ten desserts; I loved the tres leches cake. They have several chocolate desserts
Little candies available when you leave at reception
Get reservations if you can; bring your camera or phone to take photos
