“one complaint”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2012

Great place to stay given the location on the beach and only a short walk to the malecon. The breakfast was fine but would even be better if fresh fruit were available. The room was clean and had a great ocean view. The staff were quite pleasant and eager to please. The cleaning staff always had a smile and are certainly worth a good tip.My only complaint is the shortage of chaise lounge chairs around the pool. There are not enough chairs for the number of guests. It was fun to watch the "greedy grays" drag the lounge chairs to their area of choice at 6a.m. in the morning. Some of these piggies would tie up four loungers at a time but not use them until 2pm or in some cases not at all.The hotel either has to provide more loungers or police those who have no consideration for others.

Room Tip: Ocean front is worth the extra $$.

This is a basic older Mexican hotel which is well located on the beach and 3 blocks from the Malecon. The rooms are clean, the service is good, the Wifi is fast, and I think it is good value for the price. I would recommend an oceanfront room. The only drawbacks are that the free breakfast is not very good, the coffee in the restauarnt is terrible, and the pool area is quite small.
Definitely a place I would stay again.

Room Tip: Definitely choose an oceanfront room.

Just spent a few days in PV. If you are looking for a hotel with a beach uncluttered with cabanas, but walking distance to fun...then consider El Pescador. PV stretches for miles around the bay with the Malecon walkway sort of in the middle. El Pescador is 5 min walk to the Malecon. Very quiet, on the beach and you can enjoy a beach that isn't wall to wall cabanas. If you are looking for crowded beach and lots of action...look to the other side of the Malecon in Vallarta VIejo. If you are wanting brand new resorts with water slides, then go to Vallarta Nuevo. If you are looking for a slice of Mexico, responsive service, great value at about $70 a night then El Pescador is great. We did get ocean view room and had great views and quiet. Yes, beds were hard, but put blanket under sheet. We took down collapsable cooler or you could buy at Leys grocery, one block away. Good restaurants, shops and nice neighborhood right out your door. During Spring Break, we were surprised to see mostly Mexican nationals staying here. For us, that made it fun. Front desk staff helpful for non-Spanish speakers

Room Tip: We liked ground floor, overlooking grass, then beach..not over the pool and beach

This is a nice, clean, basic beach hotel.

We had an oceanfront room with a balcony for $70. Fantastic view.

The room was clean, the beds comfortable, and the AC worked. Location was great, just north of the Malecon. We stayed at the sister hotel, the Rosita, years ago and it was super loud. The El Pescador, though practically next door, is on a quiet street and did not have the same noise problem. Near several OXXOs and across the street from Ley's grocery store which is well stocked and well priced.

Room Tip: The $10 extra for oceanfront is worth it.

This hotel is quiet and low-key; many of the other guests were Mexican couples, families and business travellers. It is within walking distance or an inexpensive cab ride from attractions and restaurants. The included (hot) breakfast is quite good and the open-air restaurant which has a view of the pool and the beach is a pleasant place to sit. Service is friendly. The restaurant is also good for lunch and dinner, and more reasonable than other places in the hotel zone (except maybe the taco stands!). We had lunch by the pool one day, ordered at the restaurant and brought out on a tray to our lounges, consisting of ceviche, tortilla chips and salsa for $5 each.

Our room, on the second floor overlooking the pool, was spacious and pleasant. The balcony was a wonderful place from which to watch sunsets and hearing the waves lapping at night was a wonderful way to drift off to sleep. As others have said, I would pay the bit extra for an ocean view room. I would also add you may want to ask for a room overlooking the pool as it is quieter: the oceanview rooms directly on the beach neighbour with Mango's nightclub which can get loud at night.

THE BEDS ARE HARD. But there are blankets in each room and we found putting these under the fitted sheet helped pad it enough to be comfortable.

There is a grocery store one block away where you can get all necessities. The hotel has large coolers of water on every floor, and there is a jug and glasses in each room, so no need to buy water.

The tour desk operators are very friendly and helpful: they booked several day trips for us as well as reservations at two restaurants we wanted to try but needed someone to call and make the reservation in Spanish for us.

We would definitely recommend this as a pleasant and reasonable place to stay in PV.

Room Tip: Paying extra for ocean view overlooking the pool is worth it.
