We had a great time at Barcelo. The staff was friendly, the resort was beautiful and very well kept. Our room, although it wasn't the room that we were supposed to get, was nice and very spacious. The food in La Fuente was always very good as was the service. We visited the snack bar on multiple occasions and always enjoyed the food there too. Our experience at Don Quixote was alright. It felt slightly rushed and the food serving size was very small. Had to hit up the buffet after because we were still hungry. The pools were nice, clean and never crowded. The best thing about this resort is it's location. Although it's quite a ways from Puerto Vallarta, it is away from the hustle of all of the tourism there. Because of this, the beach was always very quiet and not a lot of people trying to sell things like the bigger beaches closer to PV. We will definitely stay at Barcelo in the future if we return to PV.

When we got to airport a little confused about how we got to our hotel. Ask a Air Transat person and she put us in a Cab. Loved it. Didnt have to wait for anyone else. Was at resort by 1215pm. Check in was easy only us. :) Well the room was huge all it was missing was a kitchen. The view from the 3rd floor was great. We where in tower 2. Well the food was great. Anyone who says its not good doesnt know what they are talking about. The buffet always had something different and you can order from a lunch menu with club sandwiches/tuna and ham wrap with fries. Pizza hand made and cooked in a pizza oven. The tacos where great too. They pool staff to entertainment to serving you drinks are top notch. The young fellow I think his names was adrian in catina bar was a great bartender and was nice to talk too. All the staff at this resort deserve a big hug. They work hard. My husband lost his baseball hat and 2 days later we asked about it and they had found it. The maid service was great. Always a clean room.

The only downfall was the GYM Hafe the equipment didnt work. I like to have a workout for a hour a day when I,m on vacation. Something I like to do.

Was at the Barcelo in Hualtoca mexico and they had the most beautiful lobby bar. This resort needs a upgrade for sure in this area. The cantina bar was nice but the chairs where old and wobbly it was a very unattractive bar. It made for the night life to be a little slow. So dont go here for night life. Cause you are far from town. But the local bus during the day is 8 pecos. Its a roller coaster ride. So if your scared of this winding road dont take the bus. Mind you cab drivers can be almost as bad. lol

I would go back forsure. But I like to try different places. Please update your bar. It would make it more attractive.

Also pick tower 2 for the sun. Get cool at night so bring a light sweater. Tower 1 is totally shaded almost all day long. And like I said gets cool at night.

Room Tip: Tower 2 for quietness and Sun. Get cool in the afternoon and the other tower 1 is all shaded.

We visited for a week over New Years Eve. The grounds are exceptional. Lush and perfectly maintained. There are several house iguanas that are fun to watch while in the (heated) pools and around. The small public beach is free of seaweed. Nice to walk down to iguana point, past fabulous massage vendors ($20/hr -Suzy will set you up). Plenty of boats avail to take you snorkeling at Los Arcos (see Suzy on the beach - $10pp). Note: tip Suzy’s people - they do a great job. Daytime pool entertainment staff does a great job, too - Nice touch when they offer free temple massages and cool eye towel/cucumbers. Good for families for basic all inclusive vacation. 4 choices for breakfast...premium lounge, room service, buffet and Los Arcos. No room service charge for premium guests. Room spacious and clean and amazing view, nice patio with table, chairs. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Bring plenty of tip cash - they work hard. But...Sunset cannot be seen from resort. All pool chairs were reserved by 7am. The moon was still out and people were reserving their chairs. Premium lounge would be much nicer if staff got up and maintained the lounge by restocking and having wine opener, water bottles available without asking. Waited long time before being greeted upon check in. Guests must wear plastic wristbands - color coded by (under)age and also premium guest. WiFi very spotty. We had to have reset several times, even though we were not over our (4) device limit. We had a family room on 9th floor - zero connection in 2nd bedroom. In our opinion, food was just ok for dinner at specialty restaurants. Our favorite dinner restaurant was Los Arcos. We had one sick family member - down for 2 entire days. Many other vacationers were sick, we learned. Bring your own medicine, just in case. Shows just ok (Michael Jackson show was great and kids enjoyed Decades). Shows take place in banquet rooms. 3 of 4 in our party didn’t love their massage. ATM fee extremely high - $35 usd service fee per transaction. Although it was a nice vacation, we’ve preferred other resorts, especially in Nuevo Vallarta.

The cons: slow check in process, very noisy at night in building 1, not enough staff at breakfast buffet.

The pros: excellent specialty restaurants (always have dinner at one of these), clean and well maintained pools and public areas, very spacious rooms and comfortable beds, fun bar (but only one) with live bands most nights (people will dance but not really set up for it, so if you are looking for a dance club, this may not be the hotel for you), fun swim up bar, great pools, two hot tubs, easy swimming beach in the beautiful cove of Mismaloya.

Note this hotel is fairly south of town (20-30 minutes by cab), but the location is a gem. Maybe spend a couple of nights in town at hotel Rio and then the rest of your stay at this all inclusive.
