Stayed here for 10 days in February. Location is fantastic, beach is the best and service is friendly. Would stay here again but would not bother with the all-inclusive as there are elements that are restricting...ie no bottled water before 11AM no cappuccino before 11AM and no booze before 11AM. Bottled beer is extra as well. Food is good but not excellent. So... great place; rooms are dated but clean and there are stores close by to purchase cheaper alcohol to take to the beach. Restaurants in Mazatlan are plentiful and most are reasonably priced. We will be back!

Spent three weeks at the hotel In January/February 2017. My overall assessment was positive. It is not a luxury property and the atmosphere is, therefore, more relaxed than at a 5-star hotel.
The room was comfortable - fair size, comfy bed, clean, with daily thorough cleaning. I had booked an ocean view room which had access to a balcony with basic furniture.

The major negative which spoiled my stay was the noise during the night. An adjacent property had loud, and I mean really loud, music every night. On Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the music started around 10 PM and did not stop until 4 AM. I had to wear ear plugs to alleviate the effect of that infernal sound. I was told that ocean-view rooms were the worst in the hotel but could not obtain a room reassignment in view of the fact I had paid for an ocean-view one.
Turning to the other facilities, they were more than adequate: beach and pool loungers in sufficient numbers, clean and sufficiently large pools. Surprisingly there is no bar, one of the dining room doubles up as a bar.
I had an all-inclusive plan. The food in the main dining room buffet was of very poor quality, as you expect in 3-star Mexican hotels. There were two or three other hotel restaurants that had much better food.
In sum, I would recommend this hotel if you want a good non-luxury hotel and would very strongly advise not booking an ocean-view room if you want to have quiet nights.

Room tip: Do not book an ocean view room

Dear valued guest
We are sorry to hear you missed our US Sports Bar, with satelite Tv from US and Canada, to make sure we get all mayor sporting events, it is up on the second floor next to the main pool, we hope for second visit where you can enjoy our Sports Bar to the max!!
As for the next door noise, we will be happy to switch you to a different room farther away from that particular spot, unfortunately their music permits/regulations with the city are totaly out of our hands.
As always at your service.

So many lovely accommodations in Mazatlan it can be hard to choose, but when you consider your primary reasons for going there are walks on the beach and swimming in the ocean, and the incredible and abundant seafood, the Playa Mazatlan goes to the top. Whether you choose to limit your trip to what the Zona Dorada has to offer or if you decide to walk all the way to the open market in city center and/or get on a bus or in a cab and take a tour to Rock Island or a nearby mountain-top, if the Playa Mazatlan is your home base on your trip, you can do it all from there, just steps from swimming and incredible sunsets itself. There's no place in the world like Mazatlan!!

Room tip: Let them know your needs and hopes for a comfortable, fun stay, and the hotel reservationist will help you select the best room for you.

The staff are great and very helpful and friendly. The Concierge was not quite as helpful. The room was comfortable, although we found that we were quite cold at night. The Italian restaurant was exceptional and the food presentation and quality was outstanding at that restaurant. No complaints there. The buffet on the other hand was disappointing. I'm not sure why the fries were always only half cooked and almost cold everyday. Breakfast was good, but lunch and dinner were pretty much the same meal. The entertainment was not the best and we almost had to move to a different room (ours overlooked the main pool) as the noise was unbearable well into the early hours of the morning sometimes. We heard the same complaint from other people. It was easy to get a chair on the beach, unlike other resorts, but we found the plastic chairs really uncomfortable after a couple of hours. The beach vendors were generally very nice and polite, but a brass band playing at full volume just in front of us everyday was a bit annoying and not very relaxing. The main pool was nice and quiet to sit by if you want a change from the beach. We took the City Tour by Nexus, which was interesting, but the continual stops for 'shopping' (jewellery store to name one) was annoying, as we were interested in learning about the culture of Mazatlan and not about buying souvenirs. All in all, it was a good holiday, but not a resort that we would make a second visit to.

Room tip: Not close to the Lobby Bar or swimming pool. Very noisy late at night.

This is our 7 visit to Mazatlan and our first stay at this hotel.
Let me start with the good:
The beds and pillows we found comfortable, the grounds at this hotel are very well kept and clean,
We really liked the location in the gold zone . Loved that I didn't have to get up and run down to the beach to get a chair saved at 6 am, lots of chairs for everyone !!
Now......the bad:
The food is terrible at the buffets, cold and tasteless plus on a few occasions( at breakfast) I saw the staff using their bare hands to pick out pieces of food from the warming trays to throw away. Yuck not very sanitary.
I am not sure if was because we had on the all inclusive wristbands ( I started looking at the colour of bands and did not see many others that were like ours) but I found the whole experience of service at this hotel depends on what plan you are on. For example, one morning I asked for baileys for my coffee and the waiter told me they didn't have any(???)ok,how about a coffee flavoured liquor..... no, they didn't have that either but he did offer to bring me tequila cream for my coffee. Now, I am not sure if this tequila cream was supposed to have chunks floating in it but I wasn't going to risk it. Later that day We were talking with people on the resort and I was telling them about how you couldn't get baileys here, they told me they had been drinking it in their coffee all week, so I went to the bar and sure enough right there on the shelf was baileys, What has upset me is one; the waiter outright lied when he said they don't have baileys(or any like liquor)#2; don't serve your guest curdled products and finally and most upsetting is how I felt treated once the staff saw the colour of our bands. If I had known how limited our choices would be for liquor and how terrible the food is, we would never of gone all inclusive at this resort.
Would I stay at the Playa Mazatlan again? Yes, because of the great location, the beach, the resort grounds and the rooms are nice and clean.
