We really liked this area. Found it interesting and awe inspiring. They have only excavated a small area so for but what there is so cool. I saw other reviews talking about being hounded by vendors at the venue but there were none there at all.

We have been to Colima many times over the years and had never visited La Campana. What a nice surprise! A easy walk around the grounds. Last year we went to Teotihuacan outside of Mexico city and my wife due to sore knees was unable to climb the big pyramids so she was very happy to be able to climb the small ones at La Campana.

A smaller set of Mayan ruins, with a small pyramid and a grave area amongst the other stone walls. Worth a visit if you are in the area, this sort of history is becoming more rare all the time.

La Campana taken on its own is a decent archaeological site. However compared to the richness of Mexican sites located in this part of Mexico it is second fiddle at best. Guachimontones outside Guadalajara and Tzintuntzan in Michoacan are much better sites albeit of different civilisations.

This was a long bus ride to explore the La Campana pyramids.  These are not patricianly tall like the classic ones, but still very interesting. The tour also included a visit to an old church and a traditional Mexican lunch complete with mariachi music. And of course shopping. The bus ride was so long that we got back to the ship just at cast off time so there as no chance to explore the beach and surrounding area.
