Playa Hornos and the adjacent Playa Morro are two of my favorite beaches in the world. I have been all over from the Rivera to Fiji and have body surfed and snorkled in Hawaii, Florida and California. These remain in my top five.

The waves are somehow powerful but gentle, fun, swimable and there is no better view anywhere. Like many places in Mexico, there are walking venors offering suntan oil, fruit, pasteries, silver -- you name it! But on the days I visited recently none were aggressive. Everyone just seemed to be enjoying perfect days at the beach!

Acapulco has had its share of notoriety lately but I saw no evidence of the drug wars from the Costera or these beaches. Of course I was not alone or out late at night.

Use common sense and you can enjoy what Acapulco has to offer -- great water and beaches, sun, friendly people and low prices.

Lots of locals use this beach. Week-ends and holidays very busy. Beach restaurants close by. Nice view and nice beach.

Not the best choice for us, we prefer much more natural and quiet beaches withou commerce. So I would recommend Diamond beach - reachable by bus in about 20 min from Centro.

This is a public beach so you will find either locals and tourist that is a good because prices of food, drinks or activities are not to expensive, there is a former restaurant named Copacabana inside there is a family business, offering fresh seafood, cool beers at very reasonable prices, ask for Betty or Lauro who will take care of you. The beach is more clean that Condesa Beach, perfect for families with children.

Go to La Union on Playa Hornos and meet Cerillo. You have to just love the guy. Except for some gray hair (but who has not gotten those) he has not changed in 30 plus years. Great Papas Fritas and cold beer and good ceviche and of course Pazolle on Thursday.
