The Malecon is being upgraded at the moment and so is quite a mess and noisy with the renovations (they seem to work all hours!). However, it is worth the cruise both during the day and evening when there is often a spectacular sunset over the bay. There are some interesting sculptures on the beach side...

Major project underway to widen the Malecon and provide more parking. So of course the whole strip is a mess. But they’re moving fast and pouring concrete overnight. They might actually make their December deadline.

We started out walking the Malecon by the 1st pier and stopped by the Marina Hotel. It is a nice walk and the Malecon will be much nicer after all the construction is completed. There is lots to look at and if you are a people watcher you will love it.

We have been to some coastal town all over Mexico, but La Paz is just so special. The Malecon is amazing to experience the real Mexican way of life.
On the weekends, this walkway is packed with people, strolling, jogging etc. There is always some sort of event going on, dancing, acting, art. Vendors offer all kind of local products.
It is a wonderful place to sit and people-watch.
They are in the process of embellishing the sidewalks and it will look very nice when they finish.
Since we came last time, they have added a new statue 'la perla' and it gives tribute to the importance of La Paz as the center of the pearl industry up until the 60's. Right now there is a great foto exhibit in town ('Casa de Gobierno' across from the church) about 'Men at sea' and fishing.

There was construction when we were there. It seems like some of the businesses on the street had seen a better day. But the views and the artwork were very nice.
