“A great deal if you go off season”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2012

We went there in June, which is considered of season, we got a great deal for a suite with sea views. the Room was very nice, thai style, we had a big balcony overlooking the sea, the bathroom was very big with a nice big tub and a shower.
the facilities at the hotel where good, Spa was very overpriced but it was a nice experience( compared whit what you get in the massage places outside the hotel)
the drinks and the food by the pool were ok, the pool was a nice place to chill out.
The restaurants at the hotel were good a bit pricy
very recommendable place.

Dear 13Vicks

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments following your recent stay at our resort.

You are correct to state we have some fantastic promotions from now though to the November which we consider our low season. The weather apart from one week has on the whole been great this past month, so if people want to take the risk, they can certainly get some great packages.

I am pleased to read you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcome you back when you are next in Krabi.

Kind regards, David Martens

If you're the kind of traveller who likes to be dropped of on the front step of a hotel that has an enormous marble floored foyer and indoor fountains that you can stare at while you check in then this is not the hotel for you.
BUT if you appreciate stunning scenery, large well appointed rooms with spacious luxurious bathrooms with a tiny splash of adventure thrown in then this is the place for you.
We recently spent 8 days at the Centara Grand and without a doubt it was the highlight of our time in Thailand.
I recommend that you e mail the hotel advising your flight / arrival details. We did so and were surprised to be met by an airport employee holding our name up on a card. He advised us that the water was rough and that the complimentary boat transfer from Ao Nang may not be operating. He had also arranged transportation from the airport to the wharf slightly cheaper than the going rate and by the time we left the airport he had confirmed that the boat was in fact running. His help was really appreciated and certainly made our arrival smoother.
Contrary to some of the other reports in this forum the boats used by the hotel are reasonably large. If the sea is rough or the weather bad they use a larger fully covered launch. In more favourable conditions a smaller partly covered boat is used. Either way the boats are modern and plenty big enough to handle the conditions. There were sufficient life jackets available on board and 3 crew to help us and our luggage on and off. If you don't like boats then this may be a problem but my young Children loved the experience.
The sea was pretty rough on the day we arrived as the area had been hit by some pretty bad weather over the previous few days. To make it a little more interesting we arrived in the dark and the floating pier was really rolling with the waves but there were plenty of sure footed friendly staff to meet us. Those who weren't confident were aided and the staff were always quick to carry my 4 year old daughter on the rougher days. They tried to help my 6 and 8 year old sons but couldn't catch them. They loved running up and down the pier "surfing" the waves.
Again I have read some complaints about the pier in this forum but the pier is only a 'little challenging' in the low season when the water is rough. For me this all added to the adventure and was far out weighed by the fact that low season is less crowded and great value for money (for both local shopping and hotel rates).
The staff who checked us in were really lovely however I requested that we be moved from the first room we were taken to. Nothing wrong with the room - just a personal preference. We were given a couple of alternatives by Onnipha Wansong (who by the way was a real star throughout our time at the Centara) and we were very happy.
The rooms were clean, well maintained and spacious. We loved the natural wood finish, there were plenty of lighting options, good A/C and the bathrooms were pretty special with a free standing bath, large shower area and sliding doors that opened up into the main section of the room.
We as a family of 5 find it pretty difficult to find suitable hotels and because of the young age of our Children we don't want separate rooms but we all fitted in nicely to 1 room with 2 queen beds and a roll away.
The breakfasts were great with plenty of hot and cold options and the choice of indoor or outdoor dinning next to the fish pond.
The split level pool is located right next to the beach and was plenty big enough and never crowded with sufficient deck chairs and umbrellas.
The beach is very nice but had been hit by some pretty heavy weather which had damaged part of the sea front. While we relaxed in the pool the staff were busy repairing the foreshore with sand bags (including the General Manager). The sand bags which will eventually be covered by vegetation did detract a bit from the stunning surroundings but after I had Kayaked around to a couple of near by beaches where I had back packed years ago and saw the affects that tourism had on them I was reassured that we were staying at the best location.
The staff are friendly and helpful and the General Manager can often be seen around the resort and was often part of the welcome team at the pier. I have never seen a GM leave the hotel office before.
The Gym has everything you need for a 'holiday' work out including a bench press with an olympic bar and plenty of weight (A big deal for me and very rare in most hotels).
The Monkeys visited our balcony every morning. A pretty unique experience for my Children. Keep your doors locked and don't feed them and if you need them to move on quickly a squirt from the complimentary water bottles in your room seems to do the trick (Sorry Greenpeace)
The Monkey trail is reasonably steep in parts. Definitely not for the elderly or very young. The first time we used it was in the rain which wasn't much fun but we enjoyed it a lot more the second time after my Kid's begged me to take them back.
The other guests at the hotel during our stay were diverse in culture and age. Some were honeymooners and some had Children but the mood was relaxed, peaceful and friendly. This is not a hotel to party at. Everyone seemed very happy so I'm not sure were those who I believe have unfairly rated this hotel were hiding.
We loved our time at the Centara Grand and are already planning to return with some friends but if I was to have one small complaint it would be rubbish. I hate rubbish especially when I find it in paradise. When we awoke on the first morning the beach was pretty messy after 3 stormy days and I was pretty disappointed but was soon happy to see a crew cleaning the beach (which they did every day). There was also a few wrappers in the gardens around our room and few things that could have been tidied up (empty plant pots in the streams etc). The GM had advised us via our travel agent that there would be some repairs to the reception roof during our stay. Thankfully the work had been completed by the time we arrived but unfortunately the bags of work site rubbish had been stacked by the beach in view of our room awaiting removal which was being held up by the rough sea. It was a bit annoying for the first few days but I was relieved to see it removed as the seas calmed (although I did have to pick up a few remnants myself). Once the bags were removed, paradise was restored and I returned to a state of bliss.
We seriously didn't want to leave and will be back. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful holiday experience.

Dear 1Tim1

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed report following your recent stay at our resort.

It was such a pleasure to receive such compliments about our staff and thank you for acknowledging all the efforts and for specifically mentioning Khun Jeab (Omnipha our rooms division manager). These comments have been shared with all the team and they are all greatly appreciative. I truly believe we should lead and demonstrate from the top so thank you for also recognizing my efforts to demonstrate this.

I have noted your comments about the rubbish and I have to admit it is a constant challenge clearing the rubbish that is washed up from the beach, however the team is aware of this and we try our best to keep it clean as much as possible.

Once again thank you for your generous support and acknowledgement and we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to welcome you back to when you are next in Krabi.

Best regards David Martens

Went for 8 nights in February. The rooms clean and pleasant, the view beautiful, the staff havent a clue! Cant tell you how many times we were ignored or told by staff they would be back in a minute to take our food or drinks order. Worst place was the bar on the beach, staff didnt have a clue. 4 of us placed a food order together only 2 of us received the order, by the time ours came the others had finished. Have been to Thailand before and have always found the service and staff friendly and efficient but not here Im afraid. In general the staff just didnt seem to know what was going on.

Room Tip: If you have mobilit problemsdont choose this hotel, some roms up steep slopes and no handrails on th...

The short evening boat trip to this resort was just lovely. Balmy breezes, lights twinkling on the distant shore and fellow travellers eager to reach their destination. The pontoon wharf is a challenge - particularly if you are carrying vast amounts of stuff. Needless to say, the staff assisting our disembarkation were attentive and concerned for our welfare. The welcome ensured that we were relaxed before we entered our room. In the room, each feature was carefully explained and the attendant made sure that we understood fully before leaving us. The pool is not massive but it is in a great spot, on the beach front. The beach is wide, clean and the waters are warm. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for one lower down - you don't have to wait for a cart.

We have just got back from an 8 night stay in the Centara Grand beach resort in Krabi, i have just been reading some of the reviews before this one and must say the first few have some valid points but there ratings are unfair. Yes the area has had some vey bad weather in the last month so the beach has taken a battering, but after 2 days of our stay the hotel posted us a note saying sorry for the disturbance but we are going to be working on the beach to repair storm damage etc. the work was carried out and now looks great! We were very lucky with the weather as yes we went in the rainy season but had 8 days of nothing but sun. The pier did have some damage but there were no issues with boats or access and before we left, the pier and timber walkway were repaired. The staff are all great very polite and pleasant, the food was excellent, we were only b&b but the breakfast had anything you wanted. Our room was perfect, great aircon, well stocked mini bar, great houeskeeping service even the monkeys were cleaning the windows as they could not see in due to the condensation on the outside of the glass! LOL We would go back to this hotel in a flash. Thanks to all the staff for a great holiday

Dear Steve J

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on this forum following your recent stay at our resort.

It was a pleasure to read you enjoyed your stay and thank you for acknowledging our efforts to repair the beach and the jetty after the monsoon storm we experience a few weeks prior.

The chef and staff were pleased to hear that your enjoyed the food and their service and if only we could train the monkeys to do more than clean the windows we would be ecstatic!

Once again thank you for your support and recognition and we look forward to welcoming your back when you are next in Krabi.
