First thing is to get very accurate directions on how to get there (forget your GPS) as the Residence Riviera is difficult to find being somewhat tucked away in a bushland area on a dirt track off the main road around 6 kms north of Porto Vecchio near the small community of Lecci. The owner Monique is very friendly and helpful, but unfortunately has limited English and if one does not speak French you can find it difficult to converse. After arriving in Bonafacio on the ferry from Sardinia, a number of phone calls later and finally a visit to the tourist information office in nearby Lecci we located the residence. When our party of 4 was shown to what was to be our villa for the next 5 days we were concerned firstly at the lack of space and secondly at the steep and narrow spiral staircase which led from the living area to upstairs sleeping quarters. The 2 bedrooms upstairs were very small and outside the doors to these rooms was a third sleeping area in the open with another double bed. The bathroom, consisting of a shower and basin only, also contained the toilet and was located on the ground level off the main living space. The kitchen consisted of a L shaped bench along the side wall with a sink and stove top incorporated into the bench and a washing machine and dishwasher were located under the bench. There was a microwave situated on top of a small cabinet with a pull out shelf top next to the fridge, but there was little or no area for food preparation. The hot water tank was also located in the kitchen area in a small alcove behind the fridge and there was a small dining table and chairs for 4 in the living area. Fortunately after some discussion with Monique we were able to be relocated to separate villas for our stay and whilst these were similar in layout we were able to convert a downstairs divan to a double bed and use only one level which meant we did not have to climb up and down the stairs. Having outlined all the negative aspects I can still say that we enjoyed our stay. The villas, whilst having their clear limitations, were clean and tidy and reasonably well equipped with the essentials for your stay. They are in a secluded location and the outdoor garden areas at the rear of each villa and the pool were very pleasant. The property is within an easy drive to the beautiful beaches of St. Cyprien and Pinarello and the historic city of Porto Vecchio and the mountain national parks around Tagliu Rossua and Conca are well worth a visit as are the coastal towns of Favone and Tarcu just to the north. The small township of Lecci is also only a few kms away and there is an excellent supermarket and butcher and bakery/patisserie are close, but you definately need a car to get around. As the saying goes when you travel "expect the unexpected".
