We visited the Meikleour Beech Hedge today only because we were in the nearby vicinity. It is not a location that we would drive to see specially during the winter months. Having said this we reckon Spring through to Autumn would be the best time to visit.
The hedge was planted in 1745 and is 100 feet tall and 530 metres long.
Please note it is on the busy A93 between Blairgowrie and Perth (approximately 5 miles out of Blairgowrie) just after the turn off for Meikleour. There is a lay-by for parking, at the end of the hedge, if you wish to stop and have a proper look.
Please be aware the road is busy and the traffic is very fast - there is a pavement of sorts on the same side of the road as the hedge but it is quite narrow.

Gardening enthusiasts rejoice. Truly a wonderful sight at any time of year, but especially magnificent in the autumn. OK, perhaps you would think a quirky attraction like this is not really worth taking a serious detour for, but here is the bonus ..... the entire journey along the stretch of road from Perth to Blairgowrie is lovely. Lush views of trees, rivers, fields. Whilst you're in the vicinity, check out Dunkeld, admire the silvery Tay, and the breathtaking sylvan scenery.

Great to see this old beech hedge so well kept. Looks amazing in the autumn with wonderful colours especially at this time of year.

Worth driving 20 miles out of your way to see. Not more! Part hedge part wood planted in commem of Jacobite rebellion according to local legend.

Quite frankly we were very, very disappointed. We had to ask directions to it despite it being very close to our hotel. It is not a hedge in the accepted sense and to be honest you could drive by it without knowing you had done so and as indeed we had.

It is really just some tall trees which don't appear to be very well maintained. We weren't optimistic when we were told locally that it could do with some tlc.

We are both great admirers of the local gardens and some wonderful trees in the area but this is a sore disappointment.
