Really enjoyed a one night stay here and would come back. We got a very warm welcome from the friendly and knowledgeable staff who advised on where we could eat and walk nearby. You can walk down to the shores of Loch Ness in about 30 mins through a nice woodland path but you may have to take your boots off and paddle through the river at the very end to get to the loch depending on how much rainfall there has been. All adds to the fun :) We stayed in a barn room which was basic but really clean. There were shared toilets and showers beside our room and again they were spotless. The wee bar is well stocked and worth a visit. Good clean communal kitchen and lovely wee lounge room too. Great budget accommodation.

An ideal base for walking either the Great Glen Way or the Affric Kintail way. Very comfortable bunk rooms, well equipped kitchen, excellent well stocked bar, and comfortable sofas to relax in after a long walk! Staff very friendly and helpful. Local taxi available to transport walkers to daily start points if required.

Very good meet and greet. When we got there they showed us around but more importantly they had a board with a drawn map of the area. The guy in reception was brilliant. He spent quite sometime with us explaining things to do in the area using the map, where to go to spot the highlands cows, etc...

The place looked clean and tidy. The room was also clean. you need a code to get access to the bedrooms so no need of keys or cards that can get lost.

BBQ facilities too in the patio. The bathroom had the toilet and the shower separated and both were clean.

In terms of location, very good for Loch ness - urquhart castle.

The only negative that I could find was the pillows in the bedroom. All the pillows were rubbish (too flat).

A big family of seven (grandmother, sister in law, 3 kids) spent a great night there. We arrived in a rainy evening, visited the Loch Ness shore, had a great time playing board games in the lounge and felt really at home with the friendly welcome. Thanks to the young couple (and young family) who run the hostel nowadays. And thanks for the tips!!!

This is a great hostel to stay in if you are visiting Loch Ness. It could use some renovation in the rooms, but the shared bathrooms are clean and quite modern. The shared areas are nice and cosy, with a great fireplace to rest after a day of hiking around the lake. It can get a bit noise if your room is in the main building, but we had a great time in general. The welcome / check in experience is the best, really warming and nice, with plenty of advice and suggestions about the area.

Hello and thanks for taking the time to leave your thoughts for us. We have indeed worked very hard all winter long to renovate before summer sets in again. We are very proud of what we have accomplished and are already making plans to get on with more work as soon as summer is over.
Yes, the fireplace is is always a great place to rest your bones after al long day on the hills. Apologies if any noise reached your room... With most of the night time activity in the bar, it's not usually too noisy elsewhere in the building. For a much quieter stay, we recommend a bed in the barn.
Thanks again form all the team here at Loch Ness Backpackers,
Patrick and Nikki
