For a quiet stay on a beautiful beach this is the place! The rooms are clean and bright with a king size bed and a small fridge and hosts Rachel, Adam, Oso and Duke are warm and accommodating. Dos Palmas is perfectly suited to those who enjoy a bit more of a rustic quality in a stay as things like hot water for your shower are not always available(which isn't necessary in the heat of CR most times). The drive down the bumpy road is worth it to escape the madness of high season and enjoy a vast beach virtually to yourselves. Extras include boogie boards, beach chairs and hammocks and our hosts were constantly providing us with little things we needed such as wine glasses etc. Our one night stay turned in to three!

This is the perfect quiet, beautiful beach, right outside your door--lots of sand dollars and drift wood! Rachel and Adam are very attentive, friendly, interesting and knowledgeable about the area. This is not your beach with bars with special mixed drinks, fancy pools and jacuzzis, or even gourmet restaurants (though there is a place nearby with great shrimp, lobster,etc.). This is basic, laid-back beach time--with activities in the area if you want to go after them (whale-watching, horseback riding, etc.).
Our room was basic with a big comfortable bed and a nice hot shower. A little sparsely furnished. But then the veranda has lots of comfortable lounging space. Rachel fixes all the coffee you could want and lots of different fruits for breakfast.

Room Tip: There are two rooms. I think one has more amenities than the other at present. Might want to check this out in advance.

Dos Palmas is a hidden gem on the beaches of Matapalo. Adam and Rachel are wonderful hosts - they have created a place of solitude and peace with their bed and breakfast inn. Please take time off the beaten path and visit their paradise. Black sand beach is right out the front door, rooms are clean and safe, and you can cook with them if you want! We'll go back for sure

On a road trip through Costa Rica I needed a place to stay, preferably away from 'touristy' places.
Playa Matapalo on the map looked like it could fit the bill, and finding the nice sign 'Dos Palmas Beach Cabinas' confirmed that I was onto something! Driving onto the property I knew right away that it was all I had hoped to find!
Located right on a gorgeous, unspoiled beach, yet very private and quiet; wildlife everywhere; spacious, cheerful rooms with a fridge; terrific hosts; it's the perfect place to experience real Costa Rica! Rachel and Adam can keep you busy exploring the beautiful area for days, my stay was definitely too short.
Listen to them regarding the 'bugs' though! Mosquitoes don't bother me too much, but there are some other really nasty beasties on the beach, and you don't feel them bite!

We were lucky to see white-faced capuchin monkeys roaming around the property the 2 days we stayed there and a sloth resting in a tree nearby.
Rachel and Adam are very welcoming. We shared dinner, good food and talk, with them.
Rooms are clean, they include a fridge.
The road is bumpy to get there but then you are in a calm isolated place, nothing commercial around.
