Have been to The Old Forge many times for breakfast, lunch or just coffee and have never been disappointed. Situated in a lovely old building, it has a good menu and very friendly and attentive staff. However unless you are a local you might not realise it is there, so some signage on the main street might help. Well worth a visit at any time of the day as it is a hidden gem.☕

We popped in for a quick lunch today and came away quite unimpressed. The restaurant was almost empty when we walked in and we asked to sit by the window. We were told that they expected to be busy over lunch and made us sit at a small table by the door and close to an ice cream machine. The food was average, and I always find it strange when the wheaten comes already buttered. Soup was ok. The cup of tea was nice. When we left there were still tables free by the window..... it doesn't take much to give the customer what they would like. Oh, and it would also make the restaurant look busy to the outside world.

Management response:Responded 2 April 2017

Thank you for your feedback.
Like many small busy Cafes and Restaurants we operate a wait to be seated policy during estimated busy periods such as lunchtime, I understand it may put the server and the customer in a difficult position from time to time. We fill up seats and tables very quickly with single dinners or couples through to large groups of walkers, even families with prams whilst also facilitating many groups needing special wheelchair access.
I appreciate this may not have happened during your visit and therefore the seating request may have seemed odd as a result, I apologise for any discomfort this may have caused to you or your companion.
Thankfully we are a busy Cafe over lunch and our customers needs are always a priority, I will re-position the small fridge away from the seated area tomorrow and take onboard all of your comments.
Many thanks.

Nice enough, always fresh, but a bit limited in menu. Cash only, no cards. Not on the main street, but beside the main car park, tucked away. Might be hard to find.
