Stayed for 3 nights at the Ardshealach Lodge. Just wonderful. Lovely Lodge, home from home, very well hosted by Jill, and simply glorious food.

“Deer but not dear”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

When driving around Ardnamurchan you have to be careful to avoid deer: they are a hazard because you want to look at them whilst driving, and also because they sometimes jump out in front of the car. Be careful of deer - except in the form of the venison stew at Ardshealach Lodge, which was on the menu the second night we dined there. No holds barred, it was outstanding, with the right kick of juniper, a thick sauce, crumbly gamey meat. The crab pate as a starter was fresh and generous and the blueberry creme brulee fruity and creamy. The meal on the first night was almost as good - I say almost because nothing can equal that stew but also because the starter of pigeon breast had slightly odd companions of potato salad, chorizo and pickle - it didn't quite work as an ensemble (though the pigeon was an excellent bit of bird.)

Ardshealach Lodge is good value and popular with locals and visitors. There are few places to eat in this remote but beautiful part of Scotland so one has to be careful but Ardshealach is very much recommended. Jill, the chef, works hard at sourcing a range of local produce, growing a quantity of it herself, to put on her daily menu. The wine list is attractive, with bottles across the price spectrum; house wines by the glass.

The Lodge has a bed and breakfast as well, which is comfortable and characterful.

“An absolute gem.”
Reviewed 29 January 2012

Just returned from an overnight courtesy of my daughter (thank you Vicki ) This has got to be one of the best places to stay/eat on the west coast. Jills attention to detail is superb. Helen has the great ability to make you feel right at home, and together they just make things that little bit special. Food is superb ( I had the venison ) and the location quite outstanding. It's like being in a country house hotel without the fancy price tag, but way better than a few I've been to. If you're in the area, give it a try, you'll be glad you did. Thanks again Jill for a lovely night.
