The middle of July 2013 I had the pleasure of staying at the Cookie House fro 5 days , I travelled by myself in search of catching bone fish on a fly. 2012 travelled to Elethura for the similar amout of time but found Cat Island to be far more productive for the DYI fly fisherman.
I found the Cookie House via the internet as a hotel offering a true Bahamian experience
There are other lodgings on Cat Island that cater to vacationers that are looking to lay on the beach or in a hammock all day. I personally was there to to find and catch Bones
Mr Pat (co owner) was a pleasure to know and could not be a nicer guy, he facilitated all my needs from a car, to setting me up with a local guide (shorts), that put me on fish within ten minuets of entering the waters, Orange Creek. The Bone Fish here would school up on low tide in counts of a hundred, not lying :)
There is an earlier review that states there was a plumbing issue that I also encountered, but on notifiying Mr Pat he imediately corrected the issue caused by a previous contractors work.
The property does sit on the water front with a bueatiful tropical breeze, though the room amenities may be sparse you will find everthing in the main dinning area.

I would highly recommend the hiring of a car as you will want to explore the Island and the wonderful people and their culture.
I have never liked the concept of a vacation resort where the attitude is they prefer to keep their guests with in arms reach which is quite acceptable for some people but not I.
While the Cookie House may seem rustic to some it fit every need I was looking for in a Do It Yourself Bone Fishing experience and intend to return.
If there was one draw back on this adventure it was the choice of airline to Cat Island, check with Wayne (the other owner) when making resevations as he will be able to direct you to a reputable carrier that is currently servicing the island
All in all a fantastic time and I am looking to re-book
Good luck
Ps if you are going to fish ask Pat about the old marina development
