Vegas at the Beach

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 May 2018via mobile

I stayed here during the later half of my vacation because it looked modern and new. It's close to the airport. I stayed at Paradise Island the prior week because I wanted to take advantage of the water parks and amenities of Atlantis. Comparing both resorts, I would say that Baja Mar is more relaxing as it was quieter, has less bustle from the amusement parks and less people overall on the property. The casino is large and the shops remind you of Vegas. The restaurants are well staffed and the food is good. My favorite was Three Tides. There are many choices, from formal to casual dining like the Conch Salad shack, however, you will be paying big city prices. I felt like I was vacationing at home in NY everytime I ate a meal. As such, I frequented the fish fry on several nights. The resort has plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas with a choice of pools. The lifeguard staff is also very helpful in providing complementary beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach. I enjoyed the small aquarium and loved the tranquillity at the pier.
The waiter staff isn't as frequent on the beach, as they are near the pools. I love the modern fountain view room with balcony. My only problem was that the light at night on the fountain side of the resort was blinding. Maybe this light can be directed outward rather than right at the room balcony, as I like to leave the curtain somewhat drawn. The music from the fountain show can be a little loud but the door definitely masks the sound. The show however, are entertaining during the evening; similar to the Bellagio show in Vegas. Exorbitant pricing, but well worth it here.

Pluses
Location it is located on beautiful Cable Beach
Facility is gorgeous.
Rooms themselves
Rooms are well lit
All lights can be turned off/on from switch by door or bed art in each room
Nightlight feature in bathroom - as you approach, light under sink automatically turns
on so you can find light switch for overhead lighting
Walk in shower with overhead shower
Lots of closets and drawers
A/C (maybe heating) is tied to balcony door. If door is unlocked, A/C does not work. (Great idea, saves energy.)
Lots of pools if you're not up for the salt water
There is a cove pool with glass so you can see turtles, rays and sharks without a snorkle.
Lovely spa, the Espa (or so my husband tells me)
Onsite gallery of local art
Water display with music
Beach with life guards.
Flamingos
Casino is smoke-free (Much better than cruise ships where one should wear a gas mask to breath)
Minuses
Location it is at least a $20 cab to the main drag
A/C is set low in my mind in common areas in hotel.
Daily fee for activities which I believe includes boats, snorkle and mask (NO fins!) and use of exercise equipment

We stayed on business and the business paid for everything, including the food so not sure about what charges others would have to pay.

I'd definitely stay here again, if I could get someone else to pay.

I can only comment on the food we had - which was included as part of the event held at the convention center. Food was excellent Most dishes were identified if they contained dairy or gluten. My biggest teeny complaint is that the staff were too eager to clear the table. One evening my husband lost his glass of wine. I lost a plate with breakfast breads. As a tea drinker, I'm used to having to find my own. There was a selection of tea bags available.

I called in April and booked this hotel for 2 nights in August 2018. I was told by the booking agent that my Amex would only be preauthorized for the 2 nights stay. Instead it was charged for the 2 nights ($730). When I realized that they had charged my card, I called to cancel my reservation and was told that I would receive a full refund. That was over 2 weeks ago and I still have not received my refund. I called the hotel and was told that I needed to speak to Hyatts' central reservations and central reservations sent me back to the hotel. The hotel would not put me in touch with a manger despite my repeated requests to speak with one. This hotel has the worst customer service (at least when it comes to taking your money)that I have ever experienced...especially since we didn't even have a chance to stay here. They lie to you and there is no one willing to take accountability.

Was here for a business conference. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed, all that you would expect from a 5 star hotel. It is a beautiful hotel, with spectacular artworks throughout. Conference facilities were world class

This is our second time staying at the Bahamar and I truly can't say enough about it!!!! The location is superb ~ on sandy white beaches with gorgeous turquoise waters. Although it is quite busy, you never feel as if it is crowded due to several beautiful pools and expansive space, both outside and in. The people working here go out of their way to make you feel at home. There are so many special features here ~ from the live flamingos, the Exploration Center where you can watch them feeding the sharks and stingrays, the outdoor water show, the large firepit, etc.. etc. I could go on and on... We are staying the Grand Hyatt West Tower in a large suite with 2 oceanview balconies. The sunsets from the balcony are beyond belief. The fitness center/spa is also something incredibly special. Tons of great equipment. I took a yoga class this week, which was an extra $10. Well worth it. Instructor was very knowledgeable and even though I'm not proficient at yoga, she made me feel very comfortable with my skill level. We have tried almost all of the restaurants on site and the food is consistently very good. It is expensive, but what do you expect, from a world-class destination! This property is definitely going to give the Atlantis a run for their money, especially when the long-awaited water park arrives!

Room tip: Ocean view rooms are the best!!!

I am currently at the pool writing this review, day 5 of a business trip for my husband and a tag along vacation for me. First the hotel and the grounds are beautiful. Since getting here it’s rained 4 out of 5 days but that’s no one fault, having said that keep it in mind since sitting by the pools is the only real activity here other than gambling. Staff is very friendly and helpful everywhere on the resort. The food.. oh the food- I agree with all the other posts on here when I say it is way over priced and no very good. I am a vegetarian as well as have gastric bypass which makes eating more of challenge to begin with. So beware vegetables and nutritional information are not available anywhere here. I ordered a Caesar salad at the Swimming Pig , it was made with spinach not lettuce and it was barely edible for $18. Everything outside neat the pools and beach closes at 5pm so hubby never got to enjoy anything outside when he got back. Drinks are very very expensive and didn’t taste much alcohol if any. 2 strawberry margaritas were $31. There’s mothing close by to walk to so be prepared for the overpriced dining and don’t be shocked by all the taxes/ gratitudes automatically added. Our room had a balcony with a partial ocean view, very nice except for the parking lot we overlooked as well and I have to say the noise from repairs above is was very unnerving at 8am. Housekeeping is non existent, once again this isn’t a deal breaker for me since the hotel is on the company’s dime that sent us here but the complimentary water and coffee was never replaced if that’s important to you .. I didn’t care really but a bottle of water at the store on-site is $6 plus gratitiies.. not sure why I have to auto tip a store for this. Pools are awesome, but a few are closed off while we are here for an IBM conference. Ate at Stix.. it was okay noting great and felt like I was at a fast food restaurant but the bill was $75 for a side dish of vegetables rice (plenty for me) beef fried rice for hubby and 2 beer.. nothing special. We had 2 single serve room service pizzas and 1 Diet Coke last night and it was $69. So budget for it , this isn’t. The place to come if you want a average cost vacation. All in all its a lovely place to come but not affordable if I was personally choosing a place to stay. The hotel did put a $5000 hold on our credit card when we checked in which I though was extreme but hey we will get it back at the end. My hasband be coming here a lot in he next year for work and we have decided that we will ask for a cheaper place to stay next time. I would of loved to get a massage but couldn’t justify the $170 plus 20% auto tip plus 7.5 vat tax for 60 minutes. I’m Canadianand after exchange it comes to $300. So all in all if money is no object, you love to gamble and don’t expect any other sort of entertainment this is a great place to come.
