Owner description: The Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre is a peaceful 80 year-old retreat spread over 4 acres of lush tropical gardens. It is a boutique zoo that specializes in bird rescue & rehabilitation, education, preservation of history and conservation of natural resources. Ardastra is home to many native species of plants and animals - including the Bahamas National Bird, the beautiful and exotic Caribbean Flamingo. We are well-known for our animal encounters that allow visitors to get "up close "with some of our residents. We encourage all of our visitors to take a guided tour for a better appreciation of our residents and our property. To maximize enjoyment, we also encourage our guests to schedule their visits around our Signature Showtimes: 10:30am, 1:30pm or 3:30pm. You can participate in the "Flamingo Experience", a unique show of the glory and antics of these incredible creatures together with an excellent narration of their story. Guests can also hand-feed the colourful and playful South Pacific Lory Parrots and have numerous photographic opportunities during your visit. While walking the Gardens, friendly and informed staff will answer questions while two-legged feathered friends will freely entertain. Light refreshments are available at the "Parrot Pit Stop". "Toby's Treasures" is filled with gifts/souvenirs so that you can take a piece of Ardastra home with you.

GORGEOUS!!! A rare find! Amazing paths and nature gallore! So many beautiful ponds and bridges to walk over. The animals were great! Flamingo show was charming! They walk right up to you. The family that owns it are tremendous! Met the grandson (future owner) who was a genius- studying to be a vet in the US and flying the Bahamas on weekends to help at the zoo! So interesting and loved seeing his family passion to keep the zoo going!!!

This place is really alright to see some animals to see and loose flamingos to that walk around. The place is not that big and the admission is a little expensive but then again I guess its for a good cause to help them maintain the animals and habitat. I ended up going here a little too early during the day and what seems to be the highlight is the flamingo show where they do their tricks and what not. I missed out on it otherwise I would give a complete 5 but if you don't happen to see the show then you might not enjoy the place that much. It is also a little far from downtown. If you have been to many other zoos then it might not be that worth to see unless you are into animals.

We are a middle aged couple, I did my research so we only planned on spending 1 hour here and that worked out well. We did the 3:30 lory parrot feeding where you get to enter their cage and feed them apples (which I loved) and then at 4:00 there is a little flamingo show where you can interact with the flamingos and watch them do a few tricks. the flamingos roam free in a little area so it is very easy to get your picture with them if you want to. The property is easy to navigate around and it feels like a little, tropical garden. There is a snack bar and clean bathrooms available.

Nice local zoo. The parrots and especially the flamingos are well worth the visit. The paths meander throughout the zoo - I would have found it useful to have had a map of the exhibits and the paths, as I found myself covering the same ground... Perhaps they have a map, and I just didn't get one?
