Viridian Gardens in St John fit our needs and some of our wants. We booked thru Destination St John and they provided a basket of food goodies on our arrival. This was very nice gesture. We really didn't use the beach at the house other than the first day. The access into the water is very rocky, not sandy and slippery. We did have some snorkelers that went out snorkeling on down the bay. We were too busy exploring all the beautiful beaches of St John. It was so nice and relaxing sitting up on the deck and seeing the sunrise/sunset or watching the boats go in and out. We had 4 couples and there was plenty of room inside and outside of the house. There are 2 bedrooms on the first floor and 2 baths(side by side). The quirky bedroom up in the loft accessed by a steep spiral staircase is ok, unless you use the bathroom in the middle of the night alot. Not for me though. The kitchen was adequate with old painted cabinets and ceramic tile countertops. It did look like it had a newer backsplash. The icemaker wouldn't work at first and they came over right away to fix it. The house is an older beach cottage so it was what we expected. This is not a 4 star but it is comfortable. The large bedroom outside the main house near the pool is large and spacious. This was my bedroom and although it was nice, I didn't like being separated from the main house. The hallway and bathroom is a mosquito haven as you can see the outside gap in one of my pictures. The tv does not work on the same cable as the main house. So no channels worth speaking of. They do have wifi, which made it nice. They could use tv's in all the bedrooms with cable. They have full size laundry but in an inconvenient outside part of the house, up and down steps- also a mosquito haven. I spent one rainy day re-designing the house as some areas were awkward. We found at the local hardware store, on the backside of Starfish Market, a deet spray for the room and an all natural incense for outside in addition to my Off, that did real well at keeping these bugs at bay. I suggest if there has been any rain, to spray under bed and around room and in bathroom and hallway before leaving for the day. Beds were all comfortable. Air conditioning worked well. Ceiling fans in all the bedrooms and the dining room, except the 2nd floor. There is air plus a boxed fan upstairs, so no heat problems there and we had some hot days. Pool is small but had a nice waterfall. The house supplies paper products, dish soap and dish washer soap. The restaurant book needs updating as some of the menus were outdated as far as prices. They provide beach towels and beach chairs. We rented jeeps in St Thomas and brought them over the ferry. We went all over the island. This is a beautiful island. Explore every beach, there are so many. Trunk and Maho are my favorites. House is easy access to the roads after the steep driveway. City center is about 5 minute drive. Starfish Market is right down the main road, less than a mile. They have pretty much everything. We bought Tilipia filets there to cook one night- pretty reasonable on some things. All our other groceries we picked up in St. Thomas on the way over. There is a nice grill on the deck. Restaurants are plentiful but some are pricey. De'Coal pot was a favorite. The beaches snack bars had awful and expensive food- take a small cooler provided by the house with sandwiches and drinks. I posted some reviews of the restaurants we ate at. We loved our stay on St John and would go back.

There are not enough words to describe how much we all loved this villa. My family and I stayed here the week of my wedding, which was held at Trunk Bay on St. John. The private beach is great to relax on a beach chair. Although it does not have the beach access you would expect (very rocky near the water) it was a great view. The rooms were nice and air conditioned, which was important for the morning of the wedding and getting ready! We were a group of 6 and there was plenty of room to move around comfortably. The loft bedroom is adorable, no bathroom upstairs but there are two bathrooms downstairs to accommodate everyone. The master bedroom connected by the patio area is beautiful with the large windows and private bathroom. Grilling out on the patio and watching the sunrise and sunset were some of my favorite experiences at the villa. Plenty of beach supplies, towels, and coolers. The driveway is extremely steep, but if you are on St. John you will be used to this for sure! We had a 4WD jeep which was perfect. Reserving the villa through Destination St. John was a great experience and one we would recommend for all of our friends. We had a small issue of the living room sliding door sticking and the repair man arrived promptly and fixed the issue very quickly. What a great place to vacation. We cannot wait to make the trip again!

Liked best: Layout offers privacy between bedrooms.
Liked least: Not all rooms had an A/C unit, but a very small concern considering we were in Paradise!

“Great Location... the only thing that matters in St. John.”

We just returned from Viridian Garden (My family of four along with friends and their two children). This was our fourth trip to the island and our first time at this Villa. Viridian Garden is right on the water at Great Cruz Bay. The view of the bay is great. Most Villas on Great Cruz Bay have fantastic views. What separates Viridian Garden from the rest is the water access and small private beach on the bay. While there are a few other Villas with water access Viridian is more affordable. The small beach is real sand - not just dirt piled near the water.

We rented a paddle board and it was used every day. The children played on the beach in the morning and late afternoon. When the children were getting tired after a day at the local beaches we returned to Viridian Garden where the afternoon sun and water access extended our beach day.

The Villa has a small pool where the kids spent the late afternoon swimming while the adults enjoyed cocktails on the deck. The location was perfect. Easy access to town and the Westin Docks - if you are going to charter a fishing trip.

Some important facts to note. The Villa is a not a "luxury" property. The kitchen is old but working. The master bedroom is totally separate from the main house and this could be an issue if you have small children in your group. Also the upstairs bedroom is accessed by a spiral staircase which is a bit hazardous for the kids. The house does need some updating.

All that being said St. John is a trip for the beaches, relaxation and the peaceful setting. This house delivers on these. I would stay there again and am already planning our next trip!

If you want a house that is totally new and modern then prepare to pay for it especially if it has the water access that Viridian Garden has.

If you are planning to stay at Viridian Garden I would recommend the following:
1. Rent a paddle board or Kayak.
2. Make sure they rental agency provides extra beach chairs (there were only 2 when we got there.
3. Bring DEET - the mosquitos come out.
4. Arrange a mid week cleaning service - the house gets very sandy from the beach.

All in it was a great trip and the house provided us with everything we needed.

“Nothing Fancy - Bohemian House”

We have stayed on St John many times and wanted something a little closer to the water and town. This was it! It's not fancy by any means but the location was perfect, we even had our own private beach. Mornings and evenings were very delightful since we could here the waves crashing against the rocks and we could watch the boats sway back & forth. The house is old and worn and could certainly use some updating, but clean and efficient. AC units are window mounted and a little noisy and only located in each bedroom. I would only recommend that 6 people stay as the upstairs bedroom is open to the rest of the house and will get hot in the afternoons. The pool is small but refreshing, we spent most of our time on the outside deck enjoying the view. Great place for the money. Beds were worn but still good condition, linens were ok, need to be replaced. Has an outside gas grill but we didn't use it. They have beach chairs and a couple of chase lounge chairs, tow tables with umbrella's. The drive down to the villa is very steep and you will need a car to get around, not many taxi's in the area. We couldn't find any reviews prior to renting this place so I hope this info helps whoever in considering renting this place. I would rent it again.
