“Winter Break”

Just really not happy with are recent stay. All the employees at the check in counter were not very friendly, did not give any effort to make you feel welcomed. Our room had small/ tiny bugs on the counters and floors, also the blanket we took out of the closet had good amount of dry blood on it. The restaurant service was terrible,we were placed on the upper level seating area. Once we were seated the waiter spend most of the time on the main level, we sat for approx. 15 min before he came back and realized we never received our drinks. He was also very pushy and not very patient when asking about menu.
I do have to mention the giftshop gal (Laura) was amazing, she was very helpful and knowledgeable about all the events happening on the island. The doormen were all very sweet aswell.

Room Tip: They won't let you choose anything. It's their way or now way. I wanted late check out, they...

After looking online and reading reviews of several hotels in St. Thomas we decided on the Bolongo as it looked laid back and fun. We were there during the "off season" and there was plenty going on at the hotel daily. We upgraded to the beachfront room which was nice for a nominal amount. The beach bar had great food, live entertainment and a nice varierty of drink choices. The beach is a bit rocky in places but the water is beautiful and there are sea turtles if you like to snorkel. It is a bit windy at times and the water can be rough. We opted to go to St. John by the ferry for 2 of our snorkeling days as it had far better snorkeling than St. Thomas. We found the beaches in St. Thomas nice, but the ones that were top rated we didn't much enjoy. The "locals" beach which was supposed to be the #1 beach was creepy and we felt unsafe there. St. John was far better if you don't like to snorkel with the masses and like a bit of an adventure. The rooms were clean at the Bolongo but modest and a bit aged. The air conditioner worked good. When we ate at the hotel restaurant the first morning they were out of several items on the menu and wouldn't add or change anything even for a nominal fee. The staff was friendly and helpful though. The location is a bit far from anything so after the first day we rented a jeep which was great. Get your rental from the airport if you choose to get one, the place we rented from we had to take it back to the same location and had no place to put our things while we waited for our flight. in addition we had to take a cab (extra $$) to get back to the airport.

what a sad day friday was!!! it is sunday now and im back to reality :( ..... would like to say what a wonderful vacation we had!!! i cant tell yall enough what a fantastic time we had! everyone and everything was great. Lobster Bar & Grille, Iggies, Heavenly Days, Bolongo Bay beach resort and the parasailing! AWESOME!!! more than we expected!!! THANKS TO ALL AND THE LORD!!! for a perfect vacation!!!!!! We arrived Feb.19,2012 and was sad to leave Feb. 24,2012. We did the all-inclusive package. There were no hidden fees, the hotel was up front about everything that wasn't included, or that was extra. The hotel doesn't have an elevator, but I sure could have used one a night or two! Besides the mosquitoes my only little complaint would be that our bed could have been newer. This was our first real vacation in 8 years, our last vacation was to Las Vegas. The parasailing was the most exciting thing we did. This was our very best vacation we have ever had, and don't know what we could do that could top this place!

Spent a relaxing 10 days at Bolongo Bay mid-February, in an upstairs "ocean view " room.
All the resort staff were friendly & helpful, the room good and clean, with easily opened doors. As others have said, the bathroom was a bit dated - no big deal, as I try not to spend much of my holiday/vacation in the bathroom anyway, and it did have everything that was required. Contrary to a previous review we found the bed a bit too soft, but everyone's different!
It was pleasant sitting out on the balcony at the end of the day, as long as an insecticide was applied first, as wee biting beasties made their presence felt at that time (hardly the resort's fault), the only real nuisance being when people were smoking on the deck below.
The noise from Iggies wasn't overly intrusive (when we weren't actually there), and stopped for the night between 10 and 11 anyway.
We ate at both Iggies and the Lobster Grill, had decent food at both of them, with enough choice that we didn't have the same thing twice all stay (apart from lobster twice for me, but that was by choice) - apart from the everyday menus there was always a special on as well.
The days we stayed in the resort were spent on the beach, swimming, snorkelling, or using other water-sports equipment readily available. A couple of catamaran trips were included in our deal, plus I did a couple of trips with the on-site dive facility.
If you're looking for an ultra efficient, faceless, soul-less corporate vacation experience, then Bolongo Bay is not for you, but if you want a friendly, well run, relaxed time on a Caribbean beach, Bolongo Bay is just the place!
We'll probably be back some time, the only problem is that St Thomas isn't the easiest of places to get to from Scotland.

Bolongo Bay rooms were clean enough. Though very dated. It took great arm muscle to open the door to our ocean front deck. The no see ums at dusk were unbareable. We went to our room at 4 PM every day, then put long pants on for supper. The menus at both restraunts were very limited. The most upsetting we found was the lady booking the tours to be unhelpful and basically felt ripped off several times. The Island tour they book was twice the price of the ones listed online and did not go as many places. The 3 hours sail cruise we were told had heavy appetizers on the way back. It was bags of chips. The cruise personal were great and was worth the money. Just did not appreciate misinformation. The desk people were very helpful. We will not go back to Bolongo Bay.
