“Not bad, but not great either”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2012

The location of the property is great, close to town, but not too close. The vistas are wonderful. Restaurants were ok, but overall, the hotel was a little mediocre for what you'd expect from a Marriott. The rooms were dated and were a little underwhelming. The walk won to the beach was a little daunting as well.
Overall its a solid three star hotel, but more what Id expect from Holiday Inn, not Marriott.

We just enjoyed a 5 day stay at the Marriott Frenchman's Reef. The day we landed we were brought in from the airport on one of the Marriott taxis. The grounds were absolutely breathtaking and the check in was very well organized. There were tons of gorgeous photos spots and for the traveler who doesn't like to venture out, there were plenty of amenities to keep you entertained without leaving the grounds. Truly, my only complaint was the painfully slow waitstaff and kitchen. Not only did service take over an hour and a half to get 2 drinks and a burger (this was not during the lunch rush) but the waitstaff wasn't very friendly and their responses were short and demanding. The only time the waiters at Coco Joe's seemed to be in a rush was when you signed our check and they wanted to pick up the tip. Other than that, the rooms were very comfortable, the pools were well maintained, and the beachfront was clean and well kept.

Thank you for taking the time to post. It sounds like the resort was the perfect vacation spot for you and your family! Yes, the entire property is situated on a hillside leading down to famous Morning Star beach. There are many different angles depending on where you are, all of them beautiful! Feel free to post any of your vacation photos to our Facebook page! Regarding your restaurant experience, my understanding is that we are in the process of hiring additional team members. Thank you again for the excellent review and we hope you choose to visit again soon!

We had seen the hotel many times as we had visited St. Thomas on cruises - but actually staying there was outstanding. The service was excellent, and the staff very helpful. They went out of their way to make sure our trip was perfect. Lobby Ambassador Roberta Bunn was very personable and her suggestions were right on. Deciding which restaurants to go to when we decided to eat off site was easy - we just followed the suggestions of Clint Zamrano. The big decision every day was to stay at the beautiful pool - or walk down to the Morning Star Beach, which was also fabulous. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We liked the main building overlooking the harbor. The view of the hillside above the harbor at nigh...

I went there for a trip with my company. I was totally looking forward to my stay but unfortunately it did not come near meeting my expectations. I will start with the positive: the property is absolutely breathtaking and the grounds are well kept. The main areas, pools etc are all very nice and clean and the hotel did not feel overly crowded although there were many peopl there. There was always chairs by the pool no matter what time you got there and I think this was mostly due to the fact that there were quite a few pools on property. I also went to the spa and my massage was pretty decent, nothing out of this world but still a relaxing time. The bad: it started out when we arrived around noon at the hotel. Our room was not ready and we were told check in was at 4. We decided to enjoy the day at the pool while our room was not ready. When we returned at 4, check in time our room was still not ready. To make a long story short, we got a room key around 4:45. Went to said room to find a lady in bed reading. By the time the staff figured out what was happening we did not get a room until almost 6 pm. That night we ordered room service so we could have breakfast ready before our early morning activity. We requested for it to be ready by 6:45. They did not arrive until 7:25 when we were leaving the room (despite our many calls in the morning). We stayed in one of the beach front rooms in bld 4. The last day we were there the fire alarm started going off in our room at 3 am. This continued until about 10am on and off at least a dozen more times. There was no acknowledgement or apology from the staff at any point. Overall, the staff does not seem to care to make your vacation special. They will do less than the bare minimum bc people will go to their property anyway. I would be very upset if I had spent my money to stay there.

Thank you for your feedback and we sincerely apologize for your negative check-in and room service experiences. We are currently improving procedures at our front desks, including hiring additional staff. Regarding your room service debacle, we are investigating it further with the resort management team and appreciate you bringing it to our attention here. On a positive note, I enjoyed your compliments of our property condition and especially your comment about the pool areas having ample chairs and space. Again, thank you for taking the time to share and I do hope you will give us another opportunity if your company chooses Frenchman’s Reef again!
