Owner description: The Pointe-a-Pierre Wildfowl Trust was founded in 1966. We are a national, not-for-profit environmental organization dedicated to Environmental Education, Public Awareness and the research, breeding and re-introduction into the wild of locally endangered waterfowl species and other wetland birds. As an inland, freshwater habitat encompassing approximately 32 hectares and 2 lakes, we are uniquely situated within a major petro-chemical and oil-refining complex, making it the only one in the world.

I am not a nature person but it was quite nice to see all the different types of birds. At the entrance you encounter magnificent peacocks strutting around freely. I did not like the snake exhibit though but others in my group did enjoy it.

We really enjoyed our visit to the well maintained wildlife sanctuary. The guide was lively and interesting. Our party comprised of two adult, one senior and a 9 year old child. The guided tour was about one hour after which there was time to picnic and or independently follow a hiking trail.... However the guide recommended the independent trail would be more enjoyably during the dry season as it can get very muddy. The price of the tour was very reasonable but there is not a special rate for seniors - $tt 15 adults $tt 5 children

The PaPWFT is on 60 acres around 2 small ponds, adjacent to an oil refinery, yet visitors enjoy a calm and interesting visit among numerous nesting and resident waterfowl and other native and exotic birds. The main track is around a small pool, which is 40% wheel chair accessible, and takes about 45 minutes to traverse (with stops to share crumbs with the birds). The pond abounds with talapia, small tortises and the occasional small intruding caiman. Track can be slippery and muddy when wet

Just a little detail on the wild fowl trust in Trinidad and Tobago. The Trust is known to be a safe haven for wildlife and this was proven with the birth of a baby Limpkin on the Trust's Main Breeding Lake, the very first for the Trust...
In the dry season the hills are dotted with the orange flowers of the mountain immortelle, a large flowering tree that grows to a height of about 80 feet (25 metres).
