“Always Great!”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

Yes, this place is very expensive for food. Expect to check out with a 2000.00 bill for two if you have lunch here each day. Eat lunch at Periwinkles in the back as the food is superior to the bar and beach food. We love the fettucini and the pizzas. We did not go to Blue this time as we hit it last time and for a three hundred dinner it would be great but for 800.00 it is just the name. We also went to Le Bernadin and the same thing good but not worth 800.00 for two. We ate at 7 and had and had a nice meal and other dinners we did in town. Still had a big bill with lunch every day and drinks. One year we stayed on the club level and had a good time and few weeks later we were at the Ritz in Battery Park and the club level manager recongized us from the Cayman's as he had been transferred so that was fun. We were upgraded to a suite and it was really nice and big but no sun. Nice maid put my wet bathing suite in a dryer. We were met with champagne and strawberries for our anniversay and I guess because we return each year. Tony Blair was at the hotel and one of our reservations where cancelled due to this and the food and beverage manager more than made up for this little errro. Great place, great service. If expensive food is going to bother don't stay here as you will be mad but feed well.

Room Tip: Go each year and let them know you are a returning guest

Overall, I would say the food is fantastic and the staff is always readily there for you- with a smile. The beach is truly pristine, the water is quite warm (went 2nd week of March) and I love the chairs with their own umbrellas. The only negative is that when the US print break starts, it becomes very crowded and chairs become an issue. Waking up early to get a front row chair is not an ideal situation for us, but one that needs to be addressed because you do not want to be on the 4th or 5th rows behind with young children swimming in the ocean all day. My other complaint would be that 2 days out of our 7 day vacation we did not receive turn down at night... I mean really, this simply should not happen! Overall, a great vacation, our 6 and 8 year old girls loved it and so did we.

Room Tip: Do not get a connecting room!!! We can hear everything and had to change on our 3rd night.

This establishment should be ashamed of the prices they charge for an average meal! A quesadilla and an ice tea for lunch was 37 dollars! A mud slide is 20 dollars!! I thought my husband was gonna have a heart attack the first night we dined at Blue! I had looked at the menu quickly and saw that there were a lot of great entrees~ I never checked the prices, my mistake! It turns out there is only a pre-fixed menu for 3 or 5 courses. We chose the 3 course and it was 89 dollars per person with no wine!! To add insult to injury, the appetizer consisted of 3 tiny pieces of lobster on a strand of lettuce! The staff kept insisting the meal was all about the sauces! Well I would rather have the food on the plate, instead of the sauce!! We did not have any dessert and no wine (opted for sparkling water)! The bill was 217 dollars!! HIGHWAY ROBBERY! For what? We left hungry! For less than half the bill, we walked on the beach and went to Lucas! We dined Alfreco and the food was delicious!

Room Tip: The resort side is on the other side of the road! A long hallway, which is filled with art walk is...

We enjoyed our recent trip to the Ritz on SMB. Staff was friendly, hotel was spotless. However, property is dated and shows sign of wear. Carpet is nearing threadbear condition in many places and beds are worn. Really. The rooms, while spotless, reflect tired, dated furnishings not up to typical Ritz-Carlton standards. Having said that, we enjoyed our stay....just not up to par. We ate in all the restaurants (except the sushi one) and thoroughly enjoyed each one. Blue was incredible. Bar Jack and Periwinkle offered good, fresh, attractively presented food. Service was uniformly good and efficient. If Ritz isn't updated/refreshed, would likely consider renting at a condominium property next time on Grand Cayman.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman. The concierge recommended some great activities for us to do. I highly recommend the Royal Swim at Dolphin Discovery (where you get to swim with the dolphins). The Ritz also offers a great night snorkeling program, which the whole family enjoyed (including my not so adventurous mom). Seven mile beach was gorgeous. Just down the beach there's a place to rent jet skis, which was a lot of fun to do after laying out in the sun all day. Overall, it was a gorgeous hotel with supreme amenities. I highly recommend!
