“Amazing holiday in paradise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2012

My husband and I stayed at Peter Island April 18-21 of this year, prior to a 7 day stay on St. John. We had visited the island before on a private charter for lunch, and couldn't wait to come back. We booked our stay through American Express and so we were given an upgrade to a Beach Front room upon arrival. Amazing is the only word to describe it! Our room was right on the beach and we could fall asleep to the sound of tiny waves crashing at night. The room was great - very spacious, and the bathroom was gorgeous! We arrived on a Wednesday night (would not recommend - will get to that later), and it was Caribbean buffet night. The food was delicious and we sat right off the beach and enjoyed our meal to the soundtrack of a live steel drum band. We spent the following day on the beach - LOVE the cushy beach chairs - just relaxing. The view is outstanding. We had all our meals on the island (it's not real easy to get to other islands to eat), but we enjoyed every meal.

Our last full day on the island was spent at the spa. I would definitely recommend visiting the spa if you have the time. I had a mud wrap and my husband had a massage. The staff is very friendly and the spa is exquisite, complete with its own beach and pool. We even had lunch brought up to the spa for us.

The highlight of our trip was our stay in the Crow's Nest villa. We were fortunate enough to be able to stay in this villa for the last two nights of our trip. The place is absolutely breathtaking with quite possibly the best view I've ever seen in the entire Virgin Islands. If you can't stay there, the hotel typically has a cocktail party there every so often - definitely check it out!

We enjoyed everything about our stay at Peter Island and are already planning our trip back to paradise! Can't wait!

Some things to know:

1 - Peter Island has a ferry service from St. Thomas on Tuesdays and Saturdays ONLY. If you are flying into St. Thomas, try to come one of those days. We arrived on a Wednesday, and thought we had a ferry plan. Unfortunately, the ferry operators arbitrarily change their ferry schedules. Needless to say it was a NIGHTMARE getting to the island from St. Thomas (3 taxis, and 2 ferries). If you can, try to fly into Beef Island (although we were told that flights from the US to Beef Island were discontinuing this year).

2 - Make sure that your phone is connected to wireless, otherwise your phone bill will be atrocious. The BVI charges 50 cents per text, $2.00 a minute for calls and $30.00 per MB of data used. Ouch.

3 - The hotel likes for you to make reservations early in the day for dinner. Get a schedule of what days which restaurants are open.

You will have such a great time here! And, I would be remiss if I did not mention the amazing customer service by Collin, the Concierge and Michael our Resort Host. Just wonderful.

Room Tip: Beach front at least! Upper floor has a better view.

We spent a week on Peter Island and loved the whole place. The beaches were stunning, we spent most of the week on Deadmans Beach, but also did a trip to White Bay.
The food was good, breakfast great, with fresh fruit and made to order omlettes.
Lunch was at the beach restaurant on Deadmans Beach, as was alternate Dinner. One of the dinners was a carribean buffet, however, we had decided to go late, 8 o,clock, and by the time we went for our food the choice was very limited.
The other restaurant, Tradewinds, by the pool was breakfast and the alternate dinner venue. Fillet steak was excellent, only go if you are on the meal plan, i.e full board as food and drink is expensive. $5 for a bottle of local beer, $12 for a glass of wine, or $48 for the bottle.
We found the snorkeling just ok, even after paying $60/head for a 2 hour trip. The most interesting was a Stingray we spotted while snorkeling off White Bay.
There is absolutely no nightlife and the bar shuts at 11pm.
Our room was fabulous, ocean-view, no. 132. Views across to Tortola from the front balcony, and of the harbour from the bathroom!
All the staff were pleasant and helpful but there was an odd tipping process. Every bill had 18% added to it which was for gratuity and tax, however, there was a place on the bill to add extra gratuity, which you then had to add and total. When we asked a restraunt manager she explained that it was for extra service and suggested adding $5 which we did at each meal!

Room Tip: Oceanview at the end of the row away from the reception with balcony, for fantastic views. We had ro...

We went to PIR on holy week with a group of family and friends. During the stay with invited some other friends to gather in an private boat in the Island. When our friends aproach the premises, an employee said to us that Puertoricans are not welcome in the resort. Then you know that our group went to the managers of the hotel and for our surprise the tell us the same. We cancel all the vacation and move on to a near island resort, Scrubb Island that is far, far more luxurious and enjoyable place. Never come to Peter Island!!!!

Dear pipegarcia

I am very disappointed to hear that you received less than the usual Peter Island Welcome. Peter Island Resort & Spa prides itself on a commitment to exceptional, anticipatory Guest Service, attention to detail and an uncompromising commitment to quality. When you are at Peter Island your hospitality experience is richly personalized, genuine and caring; it is delivered in luxurious a surrounding which is called ‘The Peter Island Experience’. I have sent you my contact details in an effort to get more information on this incident which I will be happy to address since your experience does not represent our committed to service excellence. We look forward to welcome you back to our Private Island Paradise in the near future.

Best Regards

Relaxing and tranquil ........ The moment we arrived we were in paradise and we loved it. The rooms were perfect - loads of fluffy pillows and a deck outside with a hammock to relax in. Deadpans beach is one of the best in the world and the restaurant there was great with a great selection of food.

The gym was small but was really great as were the tennis courts ...and with canoes and sail boats on the beach there was plenty to do. The spa was one of the best I have ever been too but a little pricey.

If you get into the spirit of the place and don't mind waiting a while at the bar ...then do not miss this island it is wonderful ... Will definately return.

NB Jean the cookie lady made our holiday and wish we could have taken her home ...also Jennifer atvdeadmans restaurant was superb...

This is a very lovely resort. Very well maintained. Beach is gorgeous. Did not see rooms as I stayed on a boat. Beach restaurant was very good. There is also a more formal dining room. Although you can still wear shorts there. This is not a place for nightlife. It is a place for reading and relaxing on the beach. There is a spa that I did not try
