Hotel has a great location. We felt very good and safe.I would recommend to stay in new part...saw rooms and they are very nice and modern, but of course if you want to have a old caribbean feel stay in old part.old part is in need of some up keep and as we heard it is already planned, so we are looking forward to stay there again...had breakfast and dinner there ...good service..good food ...breakfast kind of pricey compare to the other places. All together we had a great time!

Room Tip: New part is really new, modern... Gym is about to open.

We have had some great breakfasts here in the past but this time we only made it for lunch. The service was indifferent. The waitress wasn't all that excited that we were there. The food was bland but one person in our party had the fish and chips which they said was great. We were pretty disappointed especially when we have had such good meals there in the past.

We just returned from a 4 night stay at The Pasanggrahan Royal Guesthouse in St. Maarten. We were tired of doing your "typical" hotels and wanted something with a rustic, island feel. We were not disappointed. The guesthouse is very old and if you are looking for perfection, this is probably not your safest bet. The hotel and restaurant were very clean, but it is in need of some minor TLC. For example, the handle on the sink faucet kept coming off and there was a post broken off on the 4 poster bed. However, the staff here, as well as the guests(many of whom are repeat clients) made this one of the most remarkable, relaxing trips ever! Janet at the bar made us feel like old friends and ALL of the staff, from groundskeepers to wait staff to the front desk and beyond, welcomed us like family. The food is exquisite, the rooms spotless and the bed was super comfortable. We loved our stay so much that before we left, we booked a week for next year so we can enjoy the Regatta. If you are looking for something that really makes you feel your in the islands and you want the most wonderful staff to help you enjoy your stay, look no further than the Pasanggrahan. We will never stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: We stayed in the original building, which is several hundred years old. We had a wonderfulview of th...

One of the worst hotel experiences ever. The room was dark, dingy, and the floors filthy. The bedding tthe first night was almost a gray color. The front of the frig was all rusty. We didn't feel the area was safe at night. The staff was not helpful at all except one time when I needed to make a phone call, which didn't work out. The staff was even more unfriendly when I complained about the dirty floors. The room safe didn't work, the curtain was falling off the rod and the furniture on the balcony was so disgusting I wouldn't sit out there. The price was $175 plus tax which we felt was a lot for what we got. The general appearance of the room was not inviting. Every time you changed the tv channel it made a loud hissing sound. It wouldn't take much to paint and update the rooms, but they instead invested in a new building on the other side of the original. The worst part was when they lost the keys to our rental car. The owner thought they were his and he took them off our rental key chain. We spent the better of two hours looking for them. We were given a free breakfast for our trouble. Upon check-out we were given the wrong bill. Thankfully we were able to leave 2 days early. It cost us $39.91 to make a phone call to Miami because the phones at the hotel didn't seem to work. They didn't sell stamps or cash travelers checks. Not sure what we did get for our money. We had a view of the bay but is was partly blocked by a palm tree. The first night of our stay I mentioned that the safe couldn't be fixed and I was very disappointed about the room and the safety factor and was told it would look better in the morning. Yes, we had a great view of their laundry area which we didn't see at night. I see some of the reviews are very positive and people return. I can't imagine why. We don't like a lot of frills and services, but it would be nice to have a clean room and to feel welcome, especially for that price. I had a lot of what I thought were mosquito bites on my legs, but after reading some other reviews, I am not so sure. You can certainly find a much nicer hotel in the area. We saw some in Simpson Bay. Please don't be fooled by the nice pictures and the location on the boardwalk-a real bad choice. I sent an email to the hotel a couple of weeks ago and got no reply to my comments. At least I gave them a chance to reply and defend the hotel before my negative posting.

Room Tip: We asked for a room on the second floor because of the views. We were given that, but as I mentione...

We stayed at the Pasanggrahan after an 8 day sailing trip. The hotel was a walk from the dingy. The location of the hotel is it's best attraction. After reading other trip advisor reviews we choose the Pasanggrahan and felt we made a good choice. For the price it was the best choice available. However, we were very disappointed in the friendliness 'or lack of' at the hotel. The hotel manager herself was very serious, never a welcome or a goodbye. Her mood seemed to effect the staff who were rushed and disengaged from the guests.

Room Tip: If you want the top floor specifically ask for the top floor.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
"The Pasanggrahan Royal Guesthouse is St. Maarten's oldest and most charming inn. Formerly a rooster farm, Governor's home, V.I.P. guest house, and Dutch Royal Residence, it is ideally located in Philipsburg on a white sand beach amidst enchanting tropical gardens and enclosed within its original stone walls: a green oasis hidden on Front Street. A national landmark and one of the last bastions of West Indian culture, the Pasanggrahan is secluded and offbeat in the heart of St. Maarten’s capital, and it's a minute's stroll to shops, restaurants, casinos, banks and other institutions and activities. This authentic, colonial style inn has all the special features of a larger hotel including concierge service, the Sidney Greenstreet Bar, boardwalk beach bar, complementary chaise lounges, beach towels, and social hour. “A special place for special people” General Information"This vintage West Indian-style guesthouse has a prime spot on the beach in Philipsburg, sandwiched between the busy, narrow main street of Philipsburg and the harbor. It's set back and shaded under tall trees, a charming relic from another time. In fact, this was once the summer home of the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina, and the interior has a gracious, late-19th-century feel, with peacock bamboo chairs, Indian spool tables, and a gilt-framed oil portrait of the Dutch queen. The small- to medium-size accommodations have queen-size, double, or king-size beds with four-poster designs; some are in the main building and others are in an adjoining annex. The finest have genuine colonial flair, with antique secretaries and four-posters swaddled in mosquito netting, madras valances, hand-stitched quilts, beamed ceilings, and still life paintings. Set among lush palms is the harborfront Pasanggrahan Restaurant, which specializes in fresh fish caught by the hotel's own deep-sea charter fishing boat and family-style dinners. ... more   less
