We just returned from a week at Windjammer St Lucia, and I really can't say enough about it. It well exceeded all of our expecations. The only down side if there was any at all, was that we were a little surprised at the size of the Oceanview room. However, the outside deck and upper deck sun deck, more than made up for it. We spent many an evening on the deck sipping wine and looking out over the Caribbean. I have attached some photos of the typical ocean view room, as you don't really see this on their website.
The staff were all very helpful and friendly, the food was great at all restaurants, although the menu is a little limited. My favourite was Papa Don's. The pasta was amazing. We also chose to order take out pizza and eat our on our deck one night. The Pizza was as good as any I have had anywhere.
Two excursions I can recommend are horseback riding and the shopping trip. Riding bareback in the ocean was definitely a thrill, as well as in the saddle on the trail. The shopping trip gave us the opportunity to experience the culture outside of the resort.
If you looking for a loud, march break, party type of place, then don't go here. This was perfect for us, as we like it quiet and uncrowded. The rooms and villas are far enough away from Jammers, the bar where they have nightly entertainment, that you didn' hear it. They did have a couple of very good bands, and evening entertainment.
Would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a nice relaxing vacation at one of the highest rated resorts in the Caribbean. I should also add that the look of the villas and rooms were stunning, and have a very Spanish or South of France feel.
This was without a doubt the cleanest hotel or resort I have even been in, and I travel all over the world. No problems with mosquitos either.
We liked it so much that we bought a time share there and look forward to returning every year for many years to come.
Oh, and take the helicopter from Vieux Fort airport to Castries. Very cool! Also, make dinner reservations the day before, as it is pretty difficult to get a dinner reservation same day, at least for a decent time. We actually ended up making reservations for 4 days in advance, and cancelled if we felt like doing something else. You can always eat dinner at Jammers, where no reservations are required. If you are wondering what to wear to dinner, don't overdo it. It says "elegently casual", so I brought nice pants and shirts and even a jacket in case men were wearing sports jackets. Didn't see one. Most women were in casual dresses or skirts, while most men were in knee length shorts and polos or hang out summer shirts and casual pants. No need to overdo it. I didn't see anyone who did. Also, their local current is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, but they take US as well. One US is worth about 2.6 EC. When you buy something and use US, you will get EC back. Most prices are show in EC.
