We just returned from a week at Windjammer St Lucia, and I really can't say enough about it. It well exceeded all of our expecations. The only down side if there was any at all, was that we were a little surprised at the size of the Oceanview room. However, the outside deck and upper deck sun deck, more than made up for it. We spent many an evening on the deck sipping wine and looking out over the Caribbean. I have attached some photos of the typical ocean view room, as you don't really see this on their website.

The staff were all very helpful and friendly, the food was great at all restaurants, although the menu is a little limited. My favourite was Papa Don's. The pasta was amazing. We also chose to order take out pizza and eat our on our deck one night. The Pizza was as good as any I have had anywhere.

Two excursions I can recommend are horseback riding and the shopping trip. Riding bareback in the ocean was definitely a thrill, as well as in the saddle on the trail. The shopping trip gave us the opportunity to experience the culture outside of the resort.

If you looking for a loud, march break, party type of place, then don't go here. This was perfect for us, as we like it quiet and uncrowded. The rooms and villas are far enough away from Jammers, the bar where they have nightly entertainment, that you didn' hear it. They did have a couple of very good bands, and evening entertainment.

Would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a nice relaxing vacation at one of the highest rated resorts in the Caribbean. I should also add that the look of the villas and rooms were stunning, and have a very Spanish or South of France feel.
This was without a doubt the cleanest hotel or resort I have even been in, and I travel all over the world. No problems with mosquitos either.

We liked it so much that we bought a time share there and look forward to returning every year for many years to come.

Oh, and take the helicopter from Vieux Fort airport to Castries. Very cool! Also, make dinner reservations the day before, as it is pretty difficult to get a dinner reservation same day, at least for a decent time. We actually ended up making reservations for 4 days in advance, and cancelled if we felt like doing something else. You can always eat dinner at Jammers, where no reservations are required. If you are wondering what to wear to dinner, don't overdo it. It says "elegently casual", so I brought nice pants and shirts and even a jacket in case men were wearing sports jackets. Didn't see one. Most women were in casual dresses or skirts, while most men were in knee length shorts and polos or hang out summer shirts and casual pants. No need to overdo it. I didn't see anyone who did. Also, their local current is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, but they take US as well. One US is worth about 2.6 EC. When you buy something and use US, you will get EC back. Most prices are show in EC.

We chose Windjammer for our honeymoon because we are fun-loving people who aren't looking for a big party vacation. In January, the hotel was nice and lush, but unfortunately we were not given the courtesy we expected from a hotel rated this high. Our "ambassador" did not even bother to call us once during our stay. If we needed something, like a mosqito net, we just went to the front counter and they took care of it. We had also mentioned that it was our honeymoon through the expedia booking service along with a couple other requests, but it seems that all of that was overlooked or not received by the hotel. No flowers or wine on the bed when we arrived :( We didn't bother to mention it again and we didn't let it get us down.

This may have been subconscious, but outside of the restaurants it was hard not to notice that the staff were generally more astute to the needs of older established couples. Or was it cause we were in the oceanview room? We are not stuck up people...maybe that was the problem. I'll never know.

On a positive note, all the waitstaff at the 4 restaurants were great, especially Papa Dons and Dragonfly. We didn't have any mosqito problems in the room since we kept the bathroom door closed (which has an open air window) and the mosqito repellant lit (which they provide). The upper pool was nice and quiet, but the hot tub needed cleaning. The beach was pleasant and golden; there were kids but that didn't bother us. The water was not clear on the beach, although there are other places you can go... We went to the Jalousie hotel for snorkeling and found the most beautiful soft white sand beach with clear water (although it may have been smaller than Windjammers). One disadvantage of the Windjammer is that it's far from the Pitons which seems to be where a lot of activities are (hour and a half boat trip each way - driving is worse).

Overall, I would say go to the Windjammer ONLY if you are going to rent one of the new big villas with a bunch of people. Skip the small oceanview rooms. And also skip the horseback riding; you are on a boring trail most of the time, and a dirty ugly beach the rest...it's really not worth it (and I did ride the horse in the water...yuck!). Do go snorkeling around the Pitons!

We had a pleasant honeymoon, it just didn't seem to live up to what we had read about it. Hopefully this helps someone to make their decision.
Cheers!

We just returned from the Windjammer Resort. We stayed in one of the Villas and the veiw was incredible. We have been to several different islands, and this was by far the most beautiful one we have been too. The resort is absolutely amazing. The employees of Windjammer were so helpful, and very, very friendly. The friendliest island also.
The Villa was very nice, and very well kept up.
I would recommend the Windjammer to anyone.

The resort has everything you could want if you just want to relax. The staff is very attentive and pleasant. Very nice spa with massage, facials and manicures. Food was very good with 3 very good resturants and two good bar/resturants. Lots of optional activities but it is fine for just lying around on the beach or the pool and relaxing. The rooms are spacious and being on the side of a mountain offer great views from almost any room.

From Hewanorra Airport (Hewanorra offers Jet Service) the ride is about 1 1/2 hour cab across the island but has amazing views of the island along the way (but you do also see the poverty of the majority of the island along the ride). Can take a helicopter ride a significant amount from Hewanorra airport to the Hilton and then a short cab ride to the resort. The Vigie airport is smaller but is for propeller planes only yet it is much closer to the resort.

We were totally thrilled with how things went for us at the Windjammer Landing Resort, even if North American/European visitors were to adjust to the “islands way of doing things.” From the moment we checked in to the sad time of departure, we had nothing but pleasant experiences and would happily recommend the Windjammer to anyone and give it my highest rating—we would return to this property in a heartbeat without any other consideration!

Our room was the kind of pleasant sort of serendipity one always hopes for on vacation. We arrived in St. Lucia expecting two bedrooms/baths and a common room connecting them. When we opened the door to see our three-story suite with full kitchen, dining room, living room, FIVE decks, and plunge pool to accompany our bedrooms, we were beside ourselves. These rooms really helped to create the relaxing sort of room one loves to laze around in when visiting the tropics! Not only that, but the white Moroccan design literally accented the tropical and marine colors as you looked out your windows in the morning and the sunsets in the evenings—simply beautiful!

The grounds of the property did an excellent job of keeping up St. Lucia’s version of Paradise. The bougainvillea (trees, not bushes!) were in full bloom and just beautiful as they attracted hummingbirds that seemed to swarm around like mosquitoes at times. One unique aspect of this property is that it is spread over the side of an extremely steep hillside—something that would make carrying your bags an impossibility. Instead, the Windjammer has a small fleet of minivans that are constantly on-the-go, bringing guests and their belongings up and down around the clock. We actually got to know the drivers better than probably any other staff members! One of the great benefits of this up-and-down layout, though, was that almost every room had a beautiful view of the Caribbean.

Being a food and wine-junky, I’ve always been skeptical about staying for a week at an all-inclusive for fear of the restaurants not being to my liking or for fear of getting tired of the same menu halfway through the trip. Windjammer offers six food sources, four of which I would call restaurants. We ate at three of them and were quite happy with all of our dining experiences, between the creativity of the menu, preparation of the food, level of service provided, and atmosphere. And for all travelers, one nice thing here is that you have the option of going with an all-inclusive plan or European plan (i.e. pay-as-you-go).

Lastly, the service here was everything we could hope for. On a regular basis their people were checking in with us to see if we needed anything and every single time, we felt it was a genuine inquiry, not just a procedure they were following because they had to. And any time we did have to request something, this request was met when we needed it. Also enjoyed all of the excursion trips we signed up for. For what you got, they were worth the price and excellent quality (did the whaling/dolphin-ing/snorkeling trip, the 1/2 day rain forest jeep trip, and the day trip to the Grenadines)

As I said, we highly recommend this property—it really can meet the Caribbean needs of almost anyone. About the only crowd that wouldn’t enjoy this property would be the people who are looking for a party destination.

The one warning is for those of you driving yourself. The signage on the main road is quite small. If you suddenly find yourself passing a KFC/Texaco station on the right, turn around and go back about 100 yards and turn right!

Feel free to e-mail me if you would like to see the entire travel log and other pix.
