Description: Chef José Santaella has trained with some of the best chefs in the world, including Ferrán Adriá, Eric Ripert, and Gary Danko. His apprenticeships and successful catering career paved the way for Santaella, his signature restaurant in Santurce's La Placita Marketplace. The decor is rustic yet elegant, with exposed walls, Edison light fixtures, an interior garden, and a sparkling bar. Chef Santaella fuses local and international ingredients to perfectly execute Puerto Rican nouvelle cuisine. The menu is dominated by tapas, which you can easily make into a meal. Favorites include the ahi tuna skewers, goat cheese quesadilla, 'alcapurrias' topped with crab, and foie gras terrine with fruit jelly . The cocktail bar is one of the best on the island, so don't leave without trying one of the concoctions by Santaella's mixologists. -Fodors

Nice place in the heart of Santurce. We asked for 3 appetizers: tuna tacos are good, goat cheese quesadilla was superb, but morcilla rulos were very over cooked. We ordered fish for the entree and it was good but not outstanding. Place was crowded. Service was ok, could be better. Drinks were good except for the watermelon mojito. Not bad but not impressive. Food is really good but is really expensive. But it was a good option and they promote local food so we will give it another chance.

Half an hour looking at plates with leftover food is not a pleasant experience. Specially after you ask different waiters to remove the plates and they ignore you. Then you get a rude waitress that snaps after you ask her three times for a glass and slams it down on the table as if it was your fault! It is not a cheap restaurant the least you can ask is for decent service.

This restaurant came highly recommended from a colleague of mine at work who is from San Juan. She termed it as "her favorite in San Juan." We can see why.
Service... impeccable. Paola our server was outstanding... the food runners amazing... everyone positive and welcoming. This restaurant is in a trendy area that reminds me of when the Meatpacking district in NYC was turning around and new places were popping up all the time.
Interesting upscale yet casual ambiance with nice decor.
Appys we had were ...
Roasted cauliflower - outstanding
Risoto w spanish sausage - amazing
Empanadas- to die for
Main course...with 5 adults we had the chicken quesadillas, salmon, pork belly, pork shank and two sliders for our 13 year old w plaintains that were awesome. I wa the only one who ordered desert and the flan... simply awesome. A bit on the expensive side which is exactly where trip advisor has it (4 dollar signs) .. that said.. for 6 people with drinks .. and the meal was outstanding... price was fair. One call out ... agua is Fyi... do not miss this place ... well worth it.

I’ve had an amazing experience there. The meal was just amazing plus outstanding service.
Definitely make the reservation before you go! This place is so busy.

What an amazing meal! This was by far our favorite restaurant; hip and in an up-and-coming neighborhood. It was recommended by friends. Vibrant crowd and bar scene. Not really a place to take kids. You must make a reservation as they fill up quickly. Fabulous craft cocktails as well. The ceviche was amazing!
