Needed some down time and was lucky to have this gem recommended to me. From the start we were made to feel like a part of James and Mary's family. They were so warm and welcoming! The Villa was just lovely! We were in the Guava apartment and lucky enough to have the fabulous Angela cooking for us. She was just amazing! The grounds were beautiful, and the guys, Donald, Vincent and the others were just always so helpful! The recommendations of places to go were spot on. I recommend this place and would definitely be back.

Room Tip: Very small place. Every room is a good room!

Hands down the best travel and vacation experience of our lives. World's best, pristine, un-touristed beaches, lush rainforests and vegetation and most remarkable, generous and warm people on the planet. Every second, minute, hour and day of our stay was extraordinary. Wilks Bay is where you can truly experience Jamaica. We experienced the exotic produce, fresh fruits and vegetables and the vibrant market in every meal that was prepared by Stacey. Stacey prepared for us delicious meals, such as, fresh lobster, curry goat, sea bass, rice and peas, mango smoothies, ackee and festival bread. Her wonderful desserts included a freshly grated coconut cream pie, pineapple upside down cake and lemon pie. When we first arrived at Wilks Bay, we knew our experience would be quite remarkable when we saw the smiling face of Odane. The daily presence of Odane, Winston, Norman and Little D/Darren made our trip special. In addition, they taught our son cricket and football by the pool. On our first day, Mr. Fox transported us to the Blue Lagoon in his boat. This lovely man has the most striking eyes you will ever see in your life. He then took us to a monkey island for an afternoon of snorkeling which was a magical paradise. We later kayaked to both destinations on our own. Mary and James and Nadia were the ultimate hosts. While Mary takes care of the meticulous details, we found James to be a 21st Century Thomas Merton. We practiced Xi Gong every morning on the jetty with James. He took us on historical tours of the city and helped us to explore the best of the island. One night, Mary, James, Nadia and Winston hosted a bonfire on the beach underneath the Jamaican night sky, serving James' signature rum punch with wonderful guests. The climbing, swimming and jumping at Reach Falls with Curtis (a modern day spider man) was one of the best experiences of our trip. Curtis was, once again, another person you will always remember. The nights out with James, Mary and Nadia to Vinyl Club Jamaica, Geejam and Goblet Hill were unlike any music scene I had experienced...with the cool Jolly Boys and mento music. A must: 1) the best massage of your life with Barbara on the Wilks Bay beach 2) surfing lesson at Boston Beach with Dennis 3) Rock Bottom's bowls, sculptures and cutting boards at the craft market 4) jerk chicken in Boston 5) morning hikes with Jammo the dog. The scenic road from Montego Bay to Port Antonio tolerates no mistakes and may be frightening to some. We will always know the drive is worth this experience and hope to return soon.

Mary and James could not have been more welcoming on our second visit to Wilks Bay and went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed the Jolly Boys and Vinyl Night as well as putting on a spontaneous reggae concert for us! I do believe the beaches either side of Wilks Bay are the most beautiful in Jamaica, and I also think the best food on the island is cooked at Wilks Bay! We are already planning our third visit for next year and we can't wait.

The absolute best! Hands down the nicest, best run hotel in Jamaica. The setting is stunning the water is crystal clear & the owner James & Mary are some of the nicest around. I stayed for ten days & I did not want to leave. I miss my cook Sita and her excellent local dishes like crab curry or all of the fresh fruit every morning. The staff are the most helpful and nice to chat with even the yougn groundskeepers were all smiles and would drop everything to open you a coconut to drink. The property is very well built, designed & very well maintained. The snorkling right off the pier is awesome but there isnt much fish life left to see, but not any fault of the resort. A true all inclusive resort that you don't have to leave for much. The staff was great & an overall wonderful experience. A must stay at resort with no worries or problems during my ten days there

Room Tip: You cant go wrong with any of the rooms here

My family of four had a wonderful week-long stay at Wilks Bay. I felt inclined to define the word paradise to my five year-old as a result of our trip, including visits to the beaches within walking distance of the resort. "You see these perfectly turquoise beaches, the calm and warm water. Notice how all our meals are served to us, and they are delicious? We just go to sleep with the windows open, listening to the ocean to put us to sleep?"

The staff were kind and attentive and in no way obtrusive--from what I can tell, each of the women who helped out was also an amazing cook. James and Mary were delightful hosts, considering so many extra ideas and providing opportunities to take advantage of them. Thanks to their efforts, we got to hear a Grammy award winning Jamaican group perform at the top of the rain forest, thanks to their attentiveness, among other lovely details and experiences.

The atmosphere is relaxed and relaxing. The pool is nice, and the views are wonderful throughout the property and from inside the pool. This is not a high-octane kind of place where things are moving fast. You actually want to spend a fair amount of time on or quite near the resort to take in the beauty while canoeing or walking along the beach. With our two little ones in tow, we did not take the excursions to nearby hikes and waterfalls, though we would like to return and enjoy those outings eventually. Others who stayed at the resort said great things about those side trips. Also, even though the resort was full when we visited a couple weeks ago, it was in no way crowded feeling. In fact, I think this kind of off-the-beaten path place attracts a certain kind of visitor. We enjoyed meeting other guests, though it was ok when guests wanted to be more private, too.

This was a unique kind of experience we hope to repeat. We were looking for a way to experience Jamaica away from the big resorts. Wilks Bay delivered in all ways on that account. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Wilks Bay to couples, solo travelers, and families.

Room Tip: All rooms have lovely views. You might want a top floor for slightly better views, but you can't go wrong with any of them.
